Help with Tobago?

Looking for more information on Tobago.

I love the articles Cruise Critic put out on every port but they grouped Tobabo with Trinidad and very little on Tobago.

Can anyone direct me to another link that would help me. Would like to know; what's to do around port? How far to walk to town? To see what? Things one should do for a tour there? Internet places near port? Safety there? etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

We nogotiated with a taxi driver to take us to Fort King George for pic ops, then to Pigeon Point, then to pick us up at a certain time to bring us back to the port. While at Pigeon Point, we took a glass bottom boat tour to Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool. Here are our pictures of our day in Tobago: http://travel.webshots.com/album/577482532NzlqSu

I know my reply does not directly answer all your questions, but if you follow the links I posted, you should find the information you want/need. I did a lot of searching online, as you said, there is not as much info here on cc as there is for many other port of calls. I just googled Tobago and looked at a lot of stuff, bookmarking what I thought might be of interest to us. Hope this helps - enjoy planning and enjoy your cruise!

scroll down to day 6, where I docked in Tobago :) It was my second favorite port of the 5 I visited (second to Dominica, because I was so blown away by what that island had to offer!) I spent the day at Pigeon Point Beach and had a fabulous time! Let me know if you have any questions :)

the beach. I saw you mentioned sharing a cab with others to get there?

As you know, I sail solo and was thinking of trying this beach too. Were

there plenty of folks at the dock who were going there as well?

I am going to ask on my roll call but if nobody wants to go with

me I still want to be able to go:D..did you find other folks going?

Sorry for the delayed reply- I slacked on my replies over the holidays ;)

I actually have a pretty funny story about that... If you walk into the Tobago terminal at the pier towards the back, and turn right, there's a huge room with chairs and a waiting area, and there are lots of guys pairing people up to take cabs to various locations. One of the guys paired me off with a couple who were around my age and also looking to go to Pigeon Point Beach. The cab fare is flat rate per taxi, so the 3 of us tried to find a 4th person to share with us, but eventually gave up because there weren't many solo travelers on my sailing, and it was close to 11am at this point. On our way outside, a guy walked up to us and said he would join our cab... I explained that we only had room for 1 more person, and he said that was fine because he was by himself. It turns out, he's the drummer from the orchestra on the ship! So I ended up spending most of the day getting to know him and hearing about all his experiences working on cruise ships haha

Getting back to your question, don't worry at all about finding people in advance to share a cab with. Obviously, if you can pre-arrange it, that would probably calm your nerves a bit, but if you just go into the waiting room area, there will probably be a group you can join to be their 4th in the taxi (they also have 6 people vans for $30 so either way it is $5 per person each way if all seats are filled) Have fun and let me know how it goes!

My nerves are calm:D. I have been sailing solo for almost 8 years

now:) but I do appreciate the information on the waiting room;)

question about the waiting room...did they have some that would do a short tour of the island on the way there or back? how much would something like that run?

They had a big board posted with the prices to go to each of the locations on the island. I knew I only wanted to go to Pigeon Point, so I didn't look at it too closely, but I imagine that you could negotiate anything you wanted to do with one of the drivers. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definite answer!
