Left something behind, any chance will get it back?

Just got off the Ecstasy this morning and I realized this evening that I left my camera in the pocket of my robe. Anyone ever leave something behind and try to get it back from Carnival? I want to call Carnival in the morning and see if it was found.

Call Carnival's Guest Care 1-800-929-6400, and file a lost and found report...(they are open 8:30 t0 5:30 EST)

Yeah..good luck with that. I left my memory card to my camera in my safe and I called and reported it the same day that I left the ship and I NEVER got a response back. I called them repeatedly over and over and they told me that they were looking for it. They said that all lost items were turned in at a central location and that it would take a "while" to look through the boxes. Its been over a year and I still haven't heard from the Guest Care department. I gave up after 3 months of calling and being told to wait. So this time, I will just make sure I keep up with my stuff better. I think I will make a check list of what I take and tick things off as I re-pack to come home, that way I will know if I am missing something.

Ditto good luck my son left brand new golf shoes in his cabin, never got those back and last May I left a camera in the safe (opened) I knew where it was. I called and same thing never saw it again it really ticked me off I even had my name and address on it, now I make sure NOTHING

is left behind. Karon

After sitting in a lounge for a couple of hours and finally getting off the ship, DH realized he left his camera in the lounge. Fortunately, he did this before we left the terminal. Someone had to escort him back to the lounge and the camera was still there. I am sure that once the ship cleared and all the "excess" had been collected, he would have never gotten his camera back.

Now, he never sets his camera down. He keeps it around his neck.

Good luck!

Last year on the Destiny, we realized at the airport that we had left my girls sweaters hanging in our cabin. I called the lost and found dept at Carnival and filed a report and they "never found them". Stunk, too, because they were really cute sweaters. I filed a claim with my travel insurance to replace them, but it wasn't the same and I'm still pretty ticked off (mostly at myself for forgetting them, but geez!).

My guess is that not much that is useful ever makes it to lost and found.

Left my wedding rings:eek: next to the safe. Realized it within two hours and started calling. Never got a call back and needless to say never got the rings back either:mad:!

ugh, that must have been devastating! I am so sorry to hear that!

I have thought long and hard about it and I am leaving my rings at home. They are very loose on me (lost a bunch of weight since I was first married) and I know I would end up putting them in the safe. I would be so worried I would forget them (because that's the kind of person I am, lol) so I am just taking them off and leaving them in a drawer at home.

It will be tough to be without them though. my hand feels funny without them.

I didn't actually leave anything but my 11 yr old at the time had taken her Nintendo DS and all her games with her on the cruise and we kept them in a big pink bag. One day she went to do the kids spa day and she gave me her things to hang on to, unfortunately I left them at the table my DH & I had lunch at, went back after about 5 mins and they were gone, this was 2 days befoure our cruises ended. So each 2-3 hours I would call guest services to see if anything was turned in and never was and each day when we were home I called Carnival customer service lost & found and it was never found. My DH & I could not believe that someone would just steal a kids games just like that and not have the decensy to turn them in. Luckily enough we had renters insurance at the time so the insurance company sent me a check in the mail for $800 which was the value of everything in the bag.

Carnival thought we had left something in our cabin last year. They called me more than once. We checked everything and I called back. You have to be able to describe the item or otherwise prove it is yours.

On the flip side, my wife left a wrap on her seat in the dining room that same cruise and when I went back moments later, it was gone. Wait staff said they did not see it. Check lost and found the next two days - nothing. Even asked about it again after they had called us (see above) nada. So, I would say hit and miss.....

Let's take a longshot for a minute that Carnival doesn't really wash the robes. What if, you called the ship and that cabin and asked them to check? Not sure if you can actually do that or not and not sure who get's charged the $6.99 per minute.

Also realize that Carnival may have never even had a chance to retrieve it and put it in lost and found, or try to contact you about it.

How many times have I seen posts here from folks who upon boarding and getting to their cabin find something in their room left behind in a drawer or the safe, and THEY decide to keep it, bring it home and find the owner? I'll never understand why people choose that route.

Just a thought for the ladies, i leave mine at home and wear a fake CZ set when on vacation, for two reasons, ONE if i lose it i really wouldnt care, and TWO if im ever confronted with having to give up my jewlery to some shady charachter i wouldnt think twice about handing him over my fake rings :) i too feel empty without a ring on my finger..

Why is it that when people lose something due to personal negligance that they blame the cruise line when they don't get it back? Just asking.

Who is blaming the cruise line? If you left an item behind, whether negligent or not, would you not start your search for that item with the entity that has control over the area where the item was left?

I would not get my hopes up. Most of the reports I read about lost items on cruise ships end with an apology that the cruise line could not find the item.

I am not blaming anyone. I went the route we are suppose to go when we leave items behind, weather its on a ship, airplane, store, ect. You call the place and ask that if its found, they either send it to you (at my expense) or if in driving range, go pick it up...So explain to me how that is blaming the cruise line?

This little card had almost ALL of my photos and video's on it from my cruise on the Estascy. I was very upset with myself for not double checking the safe again before I left the ship. We had had a small fire on the deck below us and were awakend at 2am with screaming fire alarms and had to leave our cabins. I was still nervous and upset then next day when we docked and really just wanted to go home. I thought I had checked the safe, but I just looked in it, didnt put my hand in to feel if there was anything. I seriously thought the card was in my camera bag, but I guess if fell out. Like I said, on my next trip, I will check, double check and triple check BEFORE I leave the ship to make sure that I dont leave anything behind.

Obviously I was not talking about you or Raven Days. People start threads all the time about loosing somethng on board and blaiming the porters, the room stewards and anyone else that they can think of. Personal responsability is a thing of the past for way too many.

  • 3 years later...

This thread really scared me...all these stories of missing items. I'm pleased to report a happier turnout.

My SO *warned me* not to put our expensive scuba regulators in the life-jacket table, that we might forget them. My thoughts were that they would only remain there until our dive and afterwards, they'd go into our gear bag. Well, a tropical storm cancelled our dive.....and they never made their way to the gear bag...and as you've guessed....we FORGOT them.

We realized our error 2 days after the cruise ended, called carnival and got the same story about all missing items being turned in at the end of a cruise and as a big package that gets shipped to HQ in Miami. The lost & found in Miami matches the items found to the descriptions given and calls when a match is made.

After reading these posts, I was skeptical....but i know this:

Guest Services contacted the ship, and my items were retrieved from the lifejacket table (I know this because my claim was 'updated' when I begged them to let me meet the ship in port and collect my things...)

Within a week, Lost & Found in Miami contacted me to pay for the FedEx charge to get my stuff back to me.

All in all, it was my own stupidity for leaving items behind.....but I'm THRILLED at how it was handled, and that I got my expensive things returned.

I have since booked 2 more cruises with Carnival. :D

Just wanted to add that it is probably a big ship thing in general as a friend left her expensive jacket on a P and O ferry to Calais. She called and checked and the phone guy said most items of value are sent to a depo and destroyed if not claimed after a certain time.

You could try and find out the Miami place a poster has mentioned?

I lost my Ipod on day 2 of a 7 day cruise. Went to guest services and reported it missing with a description... they all look the same, but hey I tired.

The lady at guest services said that often times things are not turned in due to the dishonesty of people. I was very surprised when it was delivered to my room the next morning. Apparently it fell out of my pool bag and was turned into the bar area.

So sometimes you do get lost stuff back.
