We always just introduce ourselves and tell where we are from. We then look at the others with a "And who are you?" look in our eyes and they tell us. We do this if we go to the dining room for lunch or breakfast also. Everyone we have met on our cruises is interesting, and want to talk with us, as we want to talk to them.
