Recommendations for Seafood Restaurants in Progreso & Cozumel

Carlos 'n Charlie's is the island's cornball, always-crowded tourism hot spot, specializing in ridiculously huge tropical drinks and bar food. Many tourists like the raucous frat-party atmosphere, and, after more than one libation, you'll be lucky to stagger back to your ship. :D

La Mission serves phenomenal, authentic Mexican food at exceptionally reasonable prices. The open-air surrounds provide respite from the heat, and menus are available in Spanish and English. We highly recommend the tortilla soup. (Just off of Av. Rafael E. Melgar, the main street that runs in front of the pier)

In Progreso our favorite restaurant on the beach is Flamingos, about 4 blocks east of the pier. They have good fresh seasonal seafood including excellent ceviche. I suspect their shrimp may be frozen and not fresh caught, but i think few local places serve fresh local caught shrimp. In our experience the really good seafood restaurants in Progreso are not within walking distance. We also like Eladios, which is close to the pier. We winter near Progreso, and often eat on the beach when the cruise ships are not in.

You might like Le Saint Bonnet on the Malecon in Progreso. The fish market is out their back door. The only way to get it fresher is to catch it yourself.

There are several good places in San Miguel. We like Casa Denis just off of the square. If you there ask to dine in the courtyard.

Two of the best info sources that I have seen for Cozumel are: http://www.cozumelinsider.com and http://www.cozumelmycozumel.com.. They cover everything.
