Napier Art Deco Festival

The HAL Noordam has a short (8am to 2pm) scheduled stop in Napier on 2/16/18 during the Napier Art Deco Festival; Will that be something to enjoy or an overcrowded madhouse? Will the ship be docked close to the town? Will we have tine to enjoy the town? Thanks for any info.

I love Napier it is a very interesting town,

You can do a lot in a few short hours The Art Deco Trust run a few tours that would be possible in your time frame. You can also do a self walking tour search for the walking map.

At Napier, a shuttle bus is provided from the ship to the information centre in town.

Make sure you take your government issued photo ID when you leave the ship,.......... security staff will check everyone on board the shuttle bus at the port gate, when returning to the ship.

That would be awesome! Napier has beautiful Art Deco buildings all through the town and seeing it in festival mode would be an added bonus. Yes, it might be more crowded than usual though. Also if you want to do a tour you'd probably have book in advance. However it's very easy to just wander around the town and you should be able to pick up a self-guided walking tour leaflet at the I-Site information centre.

Note - take original photo id (drivers licence, passport) ashore with you, photocopies of passports aren't accepted. A couple sitting in front of us in the bus earlier this year were pulled off for "further processing".
