Please read Laura's last post on our old thread.

Well, gang, what do you think? We have sort of dwindled, but I am game on moving us to the other friends forum as I really do care about our little group and want to continue our friendship.

OK with me -- any way the rest of you want to go. Interesting that they've figured out that long threads slow things down -- I guess it makes sense. And getting credit for our posts wouldn't be a bad idea.

In the meantime, LauraS is on the Bermuda cruise with us (or, more appropriately, we're on Summit with her and a host of hosts!). Let me know if you want anything special communicated. (Yes, she seems very very nice on the roll call.)

No, I'm not yet packed. I kind of do it the way you do, Bob, just going through everything there is and picking out what I'm likely to need for a week (this is such a short cruise!). Got the regular dinner attire packed -- a couple of semi-casual dresses (what I usually wear to work, actually) and one pair of slacks with a couple of tops. Day stuff -- shorts and those slacks with tops. The bathing suit.
At this point, I have to do jewelry, meds, formal wear, and sleep stuff. I'll take the Kindle for reading (downloaded more free stuff last night), and I have the knitting stuff ready to go. That's about it, right? Oh, yes, shoes. Well, sneakers and sandals and one pair of dress sandals. Water shoes since it's rocky and flip flops that I might not wear anyhow but they're good for the beach if it's hot on the sand. So I'll get through my list in the next day or two. Oh, right, I'd better get through tomorrow because we leave Friday early afternoon. I lost a day with the holiday weekend.

If we move, just send out change of address cards

I got a scare when I looked at the old site and saw that it was locked.....I was thinking what did we possibly post that was so offensive that she locked us out

Major heat wave going on here....We hit 97 today. Bob the news said you were having a lot of rain. So far, we haven't gotten it, but it would be nice if it cooled it down.

Crazy weather....they were showing a tornado hitting up in Massachusettes (sp?)

Lois...are we hotter than you are? VA yesterday was even worse than MD.

Carol, the weatherbug hit 102 yesterday at Northern VA Comm Coll (that's where they have the weather station) and got to 101 today. That very brief rain we had (0.05") didn't do much and those of us hurting due to weather stuff are still feeling it.

ETA: So I haven't finished my packing yet and we leave Friday mid-day. I think I was feeling as if there was another day this week.

BTW, J has discovered that there are no more Mercury reviews, such as the long ones he wrote for the two holiday cruises. I hope he has the content somewhere else because just disappearing them -- that was a lot of work -- besides, we keep sending people to them to read about special events, like that Riedel glass workshop. Now we can't do that. But I guess he'll figure it out. He'll edit the sig block with the links also when he finds a place to put things.

Thanks to all!

Scared me at first too, but I had noticed she did the same on other threads. I didn't know why, but at least didn't think it was a major infraction. I will contact them and let them know to move us.

Nova, Tell Laura I Love Her (hmm, should have been a song writer) .

I have long thought we should have been getting credit for our posts as so many of them directly involved cruising.

Carol, no rain here today. I played 18 and it was very hot. Luckily, I rode. I will walk 9 tomorrow with my seniors group and then walk 18 more on Friday. I usually play in a weekly tourney that starts at 10, but I may play on my own at 6:30 to beat the heat. The tourney is a lot of fun. Based on our GHIN. Everyone kicks in $5 and they pay every 5th place with HC. So, even if you have a lousy day, you can still win.

Phyl has been painting a bedroom. About time she earned her keep.

Hasta luego

What a difference from our weather yesterday! Today it was only a high of 87 and it felt sooo nice outside.

Today is also Kent's 68th Birthday and he wanted to go to Arlington Cemetery to visit his parents graves, so it was really good luck that the weather made it a good day for that. There were a number of full honors burials there, even a jet fly over so we assume it was someone who was just killed in Afghanistan, which is so sad.

I went up to Costco and got one of wonderful birthday cakes and also bought filet mignon to grill tonight.

It has surprised me, but Kent hasn't wanted to go and play golf since we got back from Florida. I thought maybe he would have wanted to go today, but he just isn't feeling like it.

Ok... I found the new thread... It has been awful for the loading time... I check in less and often put in a load of laundry while I am waiting!!!

Those tornadoes were just north of us over the border.... we had an intense thunder storm later that evening... but all is fine here... very scary as we just drove through Springfield Sunday on our way home from NH!! this is not at all expected here...

Susan...enjoy your cruise... I love Bermuda!!....

Happy Birthday Kent....!! Sounds like a great menu!!

Hi folks, Happy Birthday to Kent from me too. and yes, it has been
awfully hot here toosummer is here. They say on Monday it should
be around 98........

Susan, have fun on the cruise and you mentioned the review being
gone? I am actually surprised there are still roll calls from ZENITH days.
I looked over there and the last post was over 4 years ago....now
those roll calls should definitely be archived.....no need for them to
take up space on the site.

Let's see, not sure what I posted about visiting my sister and her new
home. It is lovely and we had a nice visit. I stayed overnight and
Sunday afternoon we went to see Dad....it was truely a sad, sad
visit. I understand now it is ok if I don't drive down there to see him
every weekend because he won't realize it anymore. It was one of
those visits I just wanted to cry alot after......he is now in a
wheelchair all the time and is skin and bones......very thin. I know
some of you are much more religious than I am but if there is a God
up there......it would be ok to let him go to sleep and not wake up,
actually it would be better to do that......his quality of life really
sucks........thanks for listening.

Anyway......I am looking for a cruise and was hoping to go to
Alaska or maybe Bermuda....

Bob, Jack is back to work

Howdy!

Well, looks like the gang is finding our way to our new home .. I have asked them to move us to the other forum, but no response yet. I am hoping they are not done with the archiving or creating part 2s as there are plenty of them out there bigger than ours.

Happy Birthday to Kent! I played today and it was much much more comfortable than it has been. Maybe Kent will get the urge soon. Were his parents in the service? Arlington is quite an honor. I have visited several times and it is very moving.

Watched a little of the Memorial today. I have been there a few times, and it is a gorgeous course. However, it seems that during the interviews with Jack, a lot of the time is spent with him defending the set up. Frankly it s a bit tricked up.

Lois, if you get a good deal for Alaska, go for it. Bermuda is nice, but Alaska is our favorite. Telling about your dad brings back memories of my mom. It was a relief and merciful when she passed.

TS, I thought about you and the storms, and am glad you are OK.

Well, my fave bluegrass program is coming on our local PBS (Song of the Mountains).

Lois...I understand fully what you are saying, and I firmly believe that a time comes when death is a release and a relief....It is so sad that too many go in the prime of their lives, and others just have to waste away. God be with you.

Bob...Kent's Dad was a career Navy man. He was a Lt. Commander. In WWII he was on destroyers and was on two that were sunk under him, but lived to tell the tale.

That was pretty outrageous having tornados up in Mass Mother Nature is sure having pre-menstral symptoms

OK, got my formal black skirt and two tops into the suitcase along with two cocktail length dresses. Maybe one for Normandie dinner evening and the other in case I don't feel like the black again. (In case the waistline.... ok, I don't have to say it all, right?) It's really easier to pack these than to pack J's tux/suit/shirt/etc. -- mine take up so much less space! And one pair of flat black dress sandals for all of them -- way smaller than his dress shoes. For the other category pending for today: I stuck in a couple of nightgowns (one in the carry-on for the hotel nights and first night or two on board). Bathing suit and cover-up are already in, along with the snorkel stuff I have yet to use but I would want it the one time I don't take it so as long as there's room, I'll include it. So check those two packing areas off. Just jewelry and medication left for the morning. (Yes, I go by categories of "stuff" to pack.)

We have been discussing the need to get to the port early and board among the first and then haul our stuff around until 1 when the cabins are available. Versus a slow easy morning and taking our time getting to Bayonne and so forth. We do have priority boarding once we're there. So what's the vote from you all?

Given the reports of paint spray-over from the shipyard, J got a car cover -- cheaper than the hassle to get them to pay for the clean-up. I hope it works. Also hope it doesn't grow legs and disappear while we're gone. (Can you believe someone reported a pried-open gas tank and about a quarter of a tank gone?)

Did you like the story on the Princess forum about the guy who left his wedding ring in the safe and posted requesting help -- and someone whose friend stayed in the same cabin read his post, found it and posted about the find??? LauraS said on our roll call that she's trying to get them together now so the ring can be returned. Nice story of supporting one another.

Carol, you know, I NEVER go to the main list of threads on this forum so I would never have noticed that the thread had a lock on it. I have a shortcut on my desktop to places I go frequently (like directly to the last page of this thread -- I update the page number in the URL when the page changes) and that's howcome I read the message about its being locked and where to go -- and now I have a shortcut to the thread here. I have a shortcut to the general X board but not to any specific thread there and usually just skim the first two pages (when I look at it at all, that is).

Lois, J's mother progressed pretty much as your father is doing. She was in a wheelchair and got very very thin. It's hard to get them to eat and, to be honest, things don't taste like much to them anyhow so it's not interesting, I guess. Even their favorite foods. Hers included chocolate ice cream, and they gave it to her frequently, but mostly she didn't eat more than a bite of it. And yes, she passed away in her sleep one night. The person you're visiting there isn't the father you remember at his best. Do try to remember him that way.

Good morning

Susan, as you will be driving up on Sunday, presumably traffic won't be bad and my vote is to plan on getting to the ship around 11 or 11:30. There are many great places to hang out on the Summitt such as the solarium so you really won't need to haul a bunch of stuff hither and yon. Hope you have a magnificent cruise!

One thing about meds-I read that you should keep them in the original prescription containers when travelling to avoid problems. I usually consolidate what I need for the cruise, but then I have no proof that they are legit and could get in trouble if an inspector is in a bad mood.

Heh heh-Carol, if I had made that comment about mom nature, you gals would have buried me . I looked up the ticket prices for the US Open. Methinks I'll have a good seat in front of the TV.

Well, gotta get golfing. Nice cool temps last night and good weather today. Usually the Memorial has rain or wet conditions, but they might have four good days this time.

All y'all have a great weekend!

Hello from Spain.............

Have you missed me even a little bit?????

I have not a clue about this "move" of the thread, just let me know where we end up.

Susan - Enjoy your cruise!

CAC - Sorry to hear Kent is not feeling great.

Lois - I understand what you mean about your Dad and am hoping you and your family can make it through this very difficult time without too much stress.....

Bob - Hi to Phyl. That woman is allways working on something!

So cruise was great except weather on the crossing was quite windy and cool. We are completely hooked on Princess! And we love Crown. We will probably come back to Europe next spring on Crown - good itin and crossing ends in Rome where we are considering maybe renting an apt for 3-4 weeks. All depends on cost...

We were in Benalmadena Spain last week and our apt overlooked the Med. Fabbo view from the balcony! Not fqncy, but we really liked the location.

We arrived in Benidorm last Saturday and will be here another week. I prefer Benalmadena, but Benidorm brings back a lot of memories for Rod.

Now the bad news - I developed bronchitis rigght before we got off the ship and am still dealing with it. Still taking the 'emergency travel antibiotics and high dose Prednisone". Slowly starting to feel a little better. On top of that, not long after we got here last Saturday, I tripped and had a very bad fall. Giant lump on forehead, two black eyes, left side of face/neck badly bruised along with arms/legs. I look like I've been in a bad accident. Slowly starting to look a little better, but people still stare...

So thaqts what has been happening with us.

Lois - go to Bermuda!

May check in again before we head home on 6/12.

Good morning!

VC, sounds like a wonderful trip and am glad you are having a great time despite all the problems. I suspect Rod will find a "deal" in Rome-the hunt is what drives him.

We have heard great things about Princess, but am reluctant to consider that line because of the smoking.

Well, am NOT playing golf today (mainly because the course is closed for a tourney this morning). Am hitting the ball better than I have for many years (since I had shoulder injury and surgery). Am ddriving well and getting consistent 190-210 out of my 3 wood. It is an Adams insight that just fits me perfectly. I had my irons shortened 3/4 of an inch last month and that made a world of difference. I no longer have to choke up, and therefore can feel and swing the club better. Hitting shots I didn't used to have. All I need is more reps. Well, maybe more talent wouldn't hurt either.

Y'all have a good 'un!

Here is something to start the day off with a smile.....

Vatican Humor:

After getting all of Pope Benedict's luggage loaded into the limo, (and he doesn't travel light), the driver notices the Pope is still standing on the curb.

'Excuse me, Your Holiness,' says the driver, 'Would you please take your seat so we can leave?'

'Well, to tell you the truth,' says the Pope, 'they never let me drive at the Vatican when I was a cardinal, and I'd really like to drive today.'

'I'm sorry, Your Holiness, but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! What if something should happen?' protests the driver, wishing he'd never gone to work that morning..

'Who's going to tell?' says the Pope with a smile.

Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 125 mph.. (Remember, the Pope is German..)

'Please slow down, Your Holiness!' pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens.

'Oh, dear God, I'm going to lose my license -- and my job!' moans the driver.

The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches, but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio.

'I need to talk to the Chief ,' he says to the dispatcher.

The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he's stopped a limo going 125 mph.

'So bust him,' says the Chief .

'I don't think we want to do that, he's really important,' said the cop.

The Chief exclaimed,' All the more reason!'

'No, I mean really important,' said the cop with a bit of persistence.

The Chief then asked, 'Who do you have there, the mayor?'
Cop: 'Bigger..'

Chief : ' A senator?'
Cop: 'Bigger.'

Chief : 'The President?'
Cop: 'Bigger.'

'Well,' said the Chief , 'who is it?'

Cop: 'I think it's God!'

The Chief is even more puzzled and curious, 'What makes you think it's God?'

Cop: 'His chauffeur is the Pope

I posted my funny joke this morning before I read the posts because I needed to leave for a haircut appointment. I usually cut my bangs myself, but my hair needed the ends cut even again, and I needed the bangs layered. My hair is long for my age...about a few inches down my back and I wear pony tails all the time. I do not want to do the mature haircut that so many ladies do when they get Sr. status.

VC...Yes, I missed hearing about your adventures and I am so sorry you had that nasty fall and are sick. I hope everything improves for you soon. I do have an important question for you.....How is your friend's husband who had the lung transplant? Kent is starting to reconsider his options and wondering if it is worth going through

Susan....I like to get there early to make sure nothing goes wrong at the last minute getting to the ship. Also, I like getting on the ship and finding a place to sit before it gets crowded. Also....I like to have lunch without a rush.

Lois...No can do Thanksgiving I agree, go to Bermuda if you can. It is a lovely place.

Bob...you missed a good day to play golf, but you seem to play quite often so I think you can handle it. If you want to go to the Open you can always come and stay here, but we don't have any connections anymore to get tickets.

Today I take Kevin back to his bowling group for the first time since his hernia operation and I hope he doesn't hurt. Tonight my oldest daughter is flying in from LA to spend a few days, and it will be nice to see her again. It has been a while since she has been home. Our weather today is really great!

VC, my goodness. Your facer was much more thorough than the one I did about 18 months ago. Did you do any damage to your teeth? Was it just an uneven sidewalk or street or your own feet getting tangled or ??? I do hope all the bruises heal soon. Of course, you'll turn all kinds of interesting colors as they heal. More important, though: How is the bronchitis and how are you feeling in that regard? I hope your breathing is doing ok.

Bob, our first balcony was on Caribbean Princess and, while I occasionally noticed the smell when I was on the balcony, it was from someone just below ours, usually. In public areas, it was mostly on one side of the ship (not sure which) and it wasn't too closely monitored if that spilled over to the other side. Very different from the no smoking approach on X, but it would be manageable if you are NOT dealing with a significant actual allergy or lung issue. To be honest, if I have any option at all, I would go for X. If there's no other choice, Princess would be acceptable with the only real drawback being the smoking issue.

Carol, this is your daughter who is the sportswear designer? Hope you have a great visit -- i'm sure you will, though. How did the bowling go for the kiddo?

OK, gotta start getting into cruise mode. FYI, the drive up was both awful (Friday afternoon took about 3 hours to do what should have been 1 hour and I was in agony by the time we got to the hotel in DE) and ok (today went ok and J's brother got some cousins over and grilled ribs and a salmon filet and a bunch of veggies and such so we had a nice afternoon there). Finding the hotel near Newark Airport was quite a challenge, however, but we finally found it after calling them and now it's just a matter off stowing things away in the morning, having breakfast, and finding the airport....

S giving up on the ipad
