Caviar on HAL

I hate to disagree with the experts - but we saw if offered at the wine tastings - for a fee:D wine tastings are not that expensive and if you enjoy caviar - it's there :) I think it was the premium wine tastings:D

As well, if you happen to be in a suite, it may be offered at the offerings (I know KK you haven't had it) - if you really like caviar - I recommend booking the prinsendam:D

Is caviar available on any HAL ship, even for a fee?

Yes it is available. I've ordered it a few times.

I have the following from HAL:

Deluxe Hors d'Oeuvres are $26.00 per a dozen of each selection

Cold

Sevruga Malossol Caviar on Quail Egg

I will post the full list in the next post

We don't go to the Wine Tastings. We don't go to the one held for Four Star Mariners.

But...... what is the 'offerings' if you happen to be in a Suite?

What 'offerings'?

Caviar has not been served in the dining room for a long time.

I agree with Kazu and I have seen it in the Neptune lounge on our last cruise. So it is around, just not as excisable as it was years back. I've also seen it in some of the appetizers that Hal offers at different venues.

You actually saw Caviar in Neptune Lounge? Really?

What ship?

I'm trying to figure out how my DH missed that.

He loves caviar.

For those ships that have "The Mix" the Champagne bar offers a caviar dish for sale with the champagne order.

You're right.

I forgot about MIX.

I will admit to never having seen anyone actually eating it there but I'm sure you are correct it is offered for purchase.

Also on the longer voyages that offer the Suite lunch for the Suite passengers they have always had cavier, granted not high end but I enjoyed it with the chopped egg and onions finely diced :D

Melodie, I want to say I saw the cavier in the Neptune one late afternoon as well when we were on the Oosterdam. But I did not frequent the Neptune that often since we were on the aft on deck 8.

To order these prior to cruise you can contact the following:

Onboard Event Services Cooridnator

Phone: 1-877-885-4259

Or you can order them through either the Neptune Lounge, if you have access to it or the Front Desk if you do not. They should be ordered on a daily basis before noon.

When you order them before your cruise you MUST order them by the dozen. You cannot say I want 4 Sevruga Malossol Caviar on Quail Egg, 4 Dutch Sausage Rolls and 4 Black and White Chocolate Truffles. You MUST order 1 dozen of each.

When you order them on board the ship I have been able to work the amounts out with the Neptune Lounge Concierge and order a half dozen of this and a half dozen of that with no problem.

BTW, these were the prices I paid as late as March 2012 on our last cruise.

Everyone of the Ships I've been on in Suites, Westerdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Zuiderdam and last month on Noordam, there were little tiny rounds of bread with a caviar topping on them in that thingy that is nect to the drinks.

It is usually around 2 p.m. por thereabouts when I've been there and seen them.

Generally though, since I prefer not to share my caviar, I order a few for delivery in my stateroom. (See my last post for info on how to do it)

Could you help me out here, Joanie?

Where are we talking about?

"....that thingy located next to the drinks"?

Huh?

Thanks if you can tell me where on the ship we're talking about.

Ahhhh,

I just saw Lisa's post.

You're talking about Neptune Lounge,,,,,,,, right?

If so, I'm amazed DH has never brought any back to our cabin. He does the 'check out what they have in Neptune" late afternoon visit and brings back to our cabin nibbles he thinks we'd like. He hasn't brought caviar which is odd as he really likes it. Maybe he didn't like the presenation. I'll have to ask him.

In the Neptune Lounge. The large round dome thing.

And in my stateroom, but on a plate not under a dome:D

As for presentation, it does look appetizing, but I do not care for the tiny hard rounds of bread so I only eat the caviar, which is what I wanted anyway:)

Joanie, thanks for the info. I take it then, that it's a room service thing, only. I was thinking of the dining room. I believe someone said it's not available in the dining room. Is that correct?

along with it being in the Neptune Lounge, last year on the Prinsendam there were a couple of extra parties for the suites in the Neptune Lounge (over and above suite get together). Probably because it was a 20 day sailing with a lot of sea days -and probably because it was the Prinsendam - but at those there was definitely caviar offered along with other incredible munchies:D
