I am booked on the cruise from Dover 31st August. meeting friends who live in Spain at Alicante. Anyone know the berthing arrangements there,
is there a cruise terminal, or can the locals get alongside the ship?

We were there last year.
The Cruise terminal was very new and well organised. They had free shuttles which ran you from the ship to close to the promenade beside the marina. (its the opposite side to where you dock) I think they picked up/dropped off beside a hotel. 3/4 mins max by shuttle. It wasnt far to walk if you preferred.

With security levels changing everywhere at short notice its difficult to say whether or not your friends could get right up close or not.

Here is a link to the Port Authority website. I couldnt get a further link so you need to click this one:
http://www.puertoalicante.com/homapa.htm
then SERVICIOS, then CRUCEROS, then TERMINAL. at which point you will see a PDF clickable link on the right. Click this and get the version in English.

We had a lovely day there, its a "real" town and there are a few good things to do. The Alicante Tourist Office has a site in both Spanish and English if you need ideas.

Thanks for the information, it has proved very helpful it looks like the terminal will be the meeting place.

You should also think about a second meeting place in case security changes and they cannot get into the terminal on the day.

If you had posted this question on the "ports of call -Western Europe" board you might have got more replies. Still could, as it isnt actually an Orient topic the moderator may move it in anyway so check back.
