Carnival Splendor Oct 24, 2014 NYC to San Juan

Thinking of booking this cruise. It's been reduced in price, discounted price for a singles with taxes only $650, couples are $550 each with taxes, not bad for a 8 night cruise. Did a similar cruise from NYC to San Juan a few years ago and it was great. Any other GLTG (solo, couples, trios) booked? Not finding any threads nor roll call!

Hi, nice to meet you. I live in NYC, but just got back from Puerto Rico. I go back & Forth to help take care of my Mom with Alzheimer's! My sister & I both live in NYC. We take turns, alternating places between NYC & PR, exchanging every 3-4 months the last 4 years. Not easy sometimes! Nice to be back in NYC. Plan on spending the winter in PR. :)

Well I hope you are able to go on the Oct 24th cruise. I live in Las Vegas and will be arriving NYC on the evening of the 22nd. After the cruise, I plan on spending three nights in San Juan before heading home. I can certainly understand you wanting to spend the winter in PR instead of NYC. Joel

I took almost this same cruise on the Empress, 10 years ago, a repositioning cruise but we stopped in Bermuda for 3 days, then St. Thomas and ST.Marteen before arriving in San Juan. I went with 6 family members and we had a blast! Our waiters were "family'.

I'M TAKING THE CRUISE BASICLY BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER THEN FLYING! I'm moving to PR and taking 4 suitcases and the airfare would cost more and I can take more! :D I may be going with a friend and am just waiting to be certain they will be going, otherwise I'll be sailing solo. Did that on 5 other cruices and I do enjoy the freedom of sailing alone!

I was also in a NCL cruise in the Agean Sea, (Turkey & Greece) and celebrated Halloween onboard.;) I dressed up as a Devil and got a bottle of Champane as a prize! That was a GREAT PARTY!

Hi Andrew,

Looking forward to meeting you and your partner as well as your friends on board. Actually, I just learned of a second large GLBTG group that will be on this cruise so we should have a great time.

Remember ALL LIQUOR FLYING BACK with you must be stored in your luggage it weights, and it will be confiscated as a carry at the Airport when you get to security! Cheaper to bring another bag then to have a suitcase weigh more then 50lbs! Had both things happen to me and it cost more then it was worth! Had to pay $75 for over 50lbs and had my 3 bottles I was carring in my roll bag confiscated, no liquid more then 4 oz rule!

Although the liquor in Duty free in PR was not cheaper then in ST Thomas, and San Maartin is cheaper especially if you go to the supermarket! I could bring it back with no problem from the Duty free store at the airport to the plane! Lesson Learned!

Hi Fellow Sailors,

:D, was suppose to go with a friend but they canceled. So I'll be going solo. :D

Born & Raised in NYC, have a house in PR, taking this cruise is cheaper then flying there with my luggage! Much easier to get to Cruise terminal then to get to Kennedy Airport! :)

Have late Dinner, an Insiders Guaranteed with no cabin assigned as of yet, most likely the bottom of the ship! LOL

Will be at the NYC 2 pm Cruise Critics M&G, copied all the details. We're going to have a GREAT TIME! Anyone know of a FOD M&G? Guess I'll read about it when I get on Board.

Just 9 more days .........Michael :D

Carnival took pity on me and gave me Cabin 2337, much better then what I thought they would.

I do not Drive at all, typical New Yorker that I am! You will need to rent a car, public transportation is limited and taxi's will be needed to take you to some of the final destinations and most will not be operational after 6pm!

IN SAN JUAN TAKE THE FERRY NEAR THE CRUISE PORT AND GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BAY TO CATANO AND GO TO BACARDI. Public transport in less then an hour and about $6(Bus)10-20 Cab.

Anyone thinking of going to El Yunque could take a tour for $45-80 depending on what else you can do. You should think about renting a car and spend the entire day stopping at some of the resorts on the North Shores stopping at Riomar, the Weston or the Conquistador. Do them before or on the way back, some have Casino's that are opened only at night, look them up. Look around have a bite to eat, go to the casinos then go to Luquillo Beach before or after the rainforest.

Have more time go another 10 miles on Hwy 3 and go to the Fajardo, it's where North & East coast meet. On a clear day you can see Culebra, Vieques and ST. Thomas is only 33 miles away! Seven Bays, one of the largest marinas to charter a boat or to take a tour to see lots of little islands with private beaches to explore or go snorking. There is a historic landmarked Lighthouse at Cabezas de San Juan, where North & East meet, a vista of the 7 Bays, a Nature Preserve that have tours (YOU MUST PREBOOK THEM ON THE INTERNET), a great local beach Seven Seas which also has camping sites avaliable, good food and a Bioluminescent Bay. You can do an evening Kayaking in the glowing waters for an unforgettable experience! It will be a great way to experience the natural beauty of Puerto Rico and so much fun! Google and read about what's to do or to get directions to the resorts or the different beaches. San Juan is only less then an hour away!

Also think about spending a day in Vieques or Culebra is another wonderful option! Look them up on the Internet, read about them, most visitors never make the time and those who do are so glad they did! Sun Bay in Vieques is another Bioluminescent Bay and one of the top 10 beaches IN THE WORLD, look it up!

A CAB FROM SAN JUAN TO THE FERRY TERMINAL COST ABOUT $80-100 EACH WAY, takes about an hour from SJ. YOU CAN GET THERE ON PUBLIC TRANSIT FOR ABOUT $15 EACH WAY atleat 2 hours, 4-6 Ferries a day look up schedule. It is do able as a day trip. Ferry will take cars BUT NOT RENTED CARS, for an additional $50 RT. You can rent a car but it should be reserved for Culebra or Vieques or just take public transport to the beaches but give yourself extra time to return or you may miss the ferry going back!

The nicest Bioluminescent Bay is in Vieques, The one is Fajardo is nicer then the one in La Pargera on the West Coast. To appreciate the glowing water you have to be seen at night. Sunset in PR is about 6 pm. This time of the year the days are about 11 hours of light and 13 hours of darkness.

Ponce is a less then a 2 hour drive from San Juan and the road to get there crosses the island, you go through rainforest to the desert in just few miles with wonderful vistas along the way. Go to the Historic Zone, walk around the plaza, best place to buy souvenirs and look at the Historic Fire Station and have Home made Ice cream! Yum! Another 2 hour and your in the west coast watching a Beautiful Sunset then head ocer to La Pargera to see the Bioluminescent Bay at night. They have boats that do the tour for about an hour 2 or three times a night more in the weekend.

I'll be added WWW links to help with the info you need.

The Rainforest, Beach, and Lagoon day is 10-12 hour tour cost about $125 per person with pick up from San Juan and take you back. A Better option is to rent a car for $30, another $30 for gas, the Kayaking is $35, and if you share the ride with 4 people you could save lots of money about $50 per person vs $125.

Hi SAILORS, Not sure IF I can take the time but will look around for a costume to wear, any one else planning to dress up?

Know there will be 2 Large west coast GLBTG groups with over 150 members joining us in this cruise, BUT NO ONE IS CHECKING IN.

The other cruise from NY TO SJ that left last week on the Cl Summit was hosting a Bear cruise.

It's funny, checked this CC Gay Roll Call numbers for people who viewed this thread, I was surprised to see it has 950 views and now 13 post and only 3 people writting. :(

Where are you closet cases  LOL

Hey there,

We booked an Oceanview Guarantee and probably got assigned one of the worst cabins by location on the ship - deck one all the way to the back! Should make for an exercise-filled cruise getting around. Probably not a bad thing.

There are six in our group and we are all bringing costumes!

Let's get this party started already! See you soon!

Greetings fellow cruisers...

Phill here... I've been booked on this cruise for quite a while. I kept putting off posting on this roll call board... thinking that I've got plenty of time to do that. Suddenly the cruise is less than 4 days away!

I'll be cruising (solo) with a group of friends from the east coast. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow "Friends of Dorothy" on board!! From the sound of things... it appears that there will be quite a few "Friends of Dorothy" on this cruise.

Who knows... maybe I won't be cruising quite so "solo" after all!!! ;)

Hi Welcome to this wonderful repositioning Cruise Rick & James from Nashville, TN, one of my favorite places to visit! Go 2-3 times a year, have family & Friends stationed in Ft. Campbell that I visit whenever I can get away. Nice place to Hang out and the food is so good!

Also welcome: Andrew and his Gang from Toronto; Joel from Los Vages; and our newest Sailor ThinMan_pk from California.

Done this cruise twice and other Carribean Cruise from NY and another from Baltimore. From past expierences the first two day in open sea can be rough the first day begins cool but begins to warm up by the 2nd day late in the afternoon. the first 2 Nights can get too cool and windy. From the 3rd day on it's nice! Did a 2 week Caribean cruise departing RT from NYC & Baltimore for Thanksgiving and it was worst coming back, it even snowed just before we arrived in Baltimore. On the 2nd cruise we were suppose to go to Bermuda but it was canceled due to the rough sea.

From what I've been told 2 West Coast GLBTG groups with over 150 members will be on board but as you can see none of them have posted, funny but this thread has been viewed over 1,000 times! Too many closet cases LOL. The 2 groups have late dinner and will be having a few private parties and you will have to be part of the group with a BRACLET to ID to participate in the group activities.

Hopefully we can meet in the FOD which have yet to be determined but I'm sure will be posted.

Anyone want to get together and introduce ourselves? :p I suggest on Saturday for lunch at 1pm or we can do brunch at 10:30 or later, open to whatever other suggestions that may be offered as to place/time would be nice.

I have late dinners and from previous sailing solo they generaly put a group of other solo guest together at a large table.

Hey Mike NYC, Rick & James, Andrew, Joel...

I'm just about to head for LAX to fly east... meeting up with some friends & grabbing a train to NYC tomorrow bright & early...

I'm all for a meet & greet at a "friends of Dorothy" gathering... or seeing one another around the ship... I'm easy to spot, usually wearing a turquoise necklace like in my avatar...

In any event.... hope one and all have a safe travel to the Splendor!
