MSC Opera Dec Havana questions

We are new at cruising. Wondering is there a place near the dock in Havana to buy Cuban pesos? Is American currency ok for Cayman Islands? When is White night and 70's night on the ship if they have these and what time do these start in the evening? Any other information you can offer to newbie cruisers would be appreciated. We are seasoned travellers but first time for a cruise. Thanks!!

Whilst never cruised to Cuba, I have been to Havana a few times.

First carry a few dollars with you.

The first place that could be of interest is Almacenes San Jose.

This is the tourist market set up in an old transit shed about ten mins walk away .Google map it.

There are money Cadesa places in there, plus you can get some bargains and then take them back the ship.

The other great thing is that you are across from San Fransisco Square.

This is on the edge of the old town. History awaits.

There is a hop on hop off bus which starts and finished at the tourist market.

Cigars...Must visit Hotel Conde Villaneuva minutes from San Fansisco Sq as they have their own cigar shop and guy making cigars...I have stayed in the hotel and a must visit when I go to Habana

Change your $$ in Airport . First give your passport to window ,get it back ,then give $$ to window . Put bills one by one on counter and count out loud how much you want to exchange. Don't exchange too much ,they don't take it back  If you stay in Hotel before cruise you can do it there as well. US $ very ok on Cayman. :p
