We read in 2014 Italy guidebook, that your passport cant be less than 6 mo away from expiration. DH is 5 months away. he called agency and they said Italy and Greece is now 3 months. But for him to call the airlines and cruise co.

We called airlines. But how to get a hold of MSC.?

The cruise leaves Nov 2 to Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Greece.

Does anyone know about this guideline or how to get a hold of MSC quickly?

The Terms and conditions clearly stae you must have 6 months left on your passport.

How did you book your cruise? If you used a travel Agent, you will need to get them to contact MSC. If you booked direct then contact the MSC office you booked with.

Is there no way to get the passport renewed using an express service to avoid any issues?

MSC may well deny your DH boarding. It is not just the rules for Italy you have to concern yourself with but also for Turkey and Croatia. Have you checked all the countries websites for entry requirements for your nationality? If anyone of them won't accept a passport with less than 6 months (fairly common) then contacting MSC isn't going to do any good.

I'm guessing that means you are a US passport holder booked through MSC USA?

You can call them but really it is an individual's responsibility to check visa and passport requirements for any country they wish to enter. After all, it is the individual who will be greatly inconvenienced if ithey don't have the documentation required. I checked Turkey's consular site for you and their requirement is of at least 60 days remaining after expected date of departure.

I strongly recommend you do this yourself. You need the information direct from the governments of the countries involved. Not relying on posters on a forum or third parties.

Thanks

We checked Italy, Greece, CRotia, Malta and all were 3 months.

We were now concerned with MSC boarding. On phone they said ok. We were concerned w fine print, but what I found was no restrictions.

Great! Enjoy your trip!

You may want to print out the terms and conditions that apply to you booking so that you have a better argument if you run into difficulties at check-in.

Similar to the T&Cs in the UK, the German ones also require the passport to be valid for another six months past the end of the trip.

We came across this just three days be fore one of our previous cruises and quickly had a new passport issued for one of our kids, just to be on the safe side.

For future reference, THIS page on the US State Dept. website will give you the information needed for destination countries. (Note: In the case of WHTI destinations it may list something more restrictive than what is minimally needed, but this does not apply to OP)

Rather than print out MSC's T&C's, or perhaps in addition to, OP might want to print out the destination country's requirements, which all appear to be 3 months. Schengen, Turkey, Croatia. And perhaps that of the airline. 6 months is a worst case limit, but it probably helps to be able to prove that your destinations require less than that.
