Flyertalk has several threads devoted to Buenos Aires' F&B scene.

We ate at El Establo, Paraguay 489, in February. My husband and I split a 500 gm, boneless rib eye. You could have cut it with a spoon it was so tender. Be sure to ask for the chimichura sauce to dip it in. We were able to walk one way and cabbed it back. Cab fee like $5.00. Price of steak was very moderate. Enjoy!!

"Exceptional dinner experience" means many things to many people. Are you foodies looking for gourmet cuisine? Is it a romantic environment you seek? Do you want food that reflects the culture you are in?

I love El Establo. Bife. Vino. What could be more Agentine?

If you go, sample a proveleta or chorizo for an appetizer. "Papas espanoles" or purre de calabaza for a side.

But if it's an upscale environment you want or "fusion" food, there might be other recommendations more to your taste.

Here is a list of the Top 50 Restaurants in Latin America. You will find quite a few entries from Buenos Aires. These restaurants are geared more toward "foodies." Unfortunately a couple of these restaurants have become victims of their own success. They have become so popular they are unable to maintain quality now that they are over run with hungry hordes. La Cabrera is a great example of this. What started as a humble steak house that served great meat and excellent wines with a side dish "sampler." no longer offers a quality experience in either food and especially not service.

Pizzeria Guerrin on Corrientes near the Obelisco. Best pizza ever! We went twice.

The pizza at Guerin, like the pizza at el Cuartito, another famous joint, is akin to Chicago deep dish pizza except that the crust is soft and caky, there are fewer seasonings, and laughably meagre toppings. In fact, notwithstanding that tastes vary, the pizza in BA is way overrated. And that goes for the other style of pizza ala parrilla.

Try empanadas, locro, or choripan if you want a local fast food. Forget the pizza. However, the Portenos will be greatly insulted if you denigrate their pizza. But then that isn't so surprising as the pride (bordering on arrogance) of Portenos rivals that of Parisians.

From our experience. Some of these are las puertas cerradas (closed door restaurants). You probably already know that dinner is late in Buenos Aires. Most restaurants don't open until 7:30pm/19:30, many not until 8pm/20:00.
