Going on a cruise this December, is it better to stay near the airport or cruise port?

Hotel Recommendations welcome - for $140.00 or less per night

Free shuttle service from Airport and to Cruise Port?

If you let us know the airport and cruise embarkation location and more specific information can be offered.

In general, hotels near the airport can be less costly but sometimes the area is not the greatest.

Agree.

If you look down the board, each Florida port has MANY threads discussing and recommending hotels and locations. Transport is also thoroughly covered. All you have to do is look.

doubt you will find a hotel for that amount near the port of Miami

Try one of the hotel booking sites for something in your budget

maybe Priceline would work for you

There are 5 ports in Florida in 5 different cities that have cruises on a weekly basis, 6 if we include Palm Beach.

Which port are you sailing from? Which airport are you flying into?

We can't help you with your question.

Ship sails from Miami

We are on the same cruise & are at the Hampton Inn in Brickell but it is over $200 with taxes

Look at Trip advisor & put in Downtown or airport location & see what hotel fit your budget

I would stay downtown more things to do & places to eat

You will be heading out of Port Miami. Finding a hotel in December in Miami for less than $140.00 will be very difficult, especially a nice one. Most hotels do not have shuttles to the port. The only hotels that do are by the airport.

Do you just want a place to stay for the night? Then stay by the airport. If you want a nice place to stay with things to do and see stay in Downtown Miami or Brickell which is very close to the port. Or Miami Beach, which is also not that far from the port.

Increase your budget slightly and you have good options. I just looked online at hotels.com and found the Hampton Inn Brickell for December 1st at $169.00 thats a nice hotel in a great area. Or the YVE Hotel for $179. Also a nice hotel in a great area. I would suggest booking those today. Those are great rates.

Riveria sails out of Miami, assume you also fly into MIA. Expensive cruise and cheap hotel......oh !

A good choice would be Fortune House and Suites, it is in the Financial District close to Bayside - about $120/night

When you arrive at MIA goto the new Transportation hub (same place as the Car Rentals) get on the MIAmover to Brickell cost $2.25pp, then transfer onto the free Metromover to the Financial District stop (end of Line). Fortune House is couple hundred yards away on 14th Street. On the morning of the cruise take a taxi to POM - $10/$15 max.

Many thanks for the info - What are the approx taxi costs for a party of five from the Airport to Hampton INN and from there to the port.

That said we will be very tired after traveling for the past 18/19 hours - imagine we would just want a quick evening meal and bed

Just checked prices for Fortune House and Suites - comes out to $160.00 with Breakfast - whilst Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami Downtown/Brickell coming out at $146.00 - Many thanks for all the advice, info and suggestions - much appreciated

Be careful if you use a Miami Taxi to the port, they will take you around the houses and charge you $30 for the experience.

So in lieu of a Taxi - what do I use ? - Not interested in Buses or the like

You will need a Minivan for 5 people plus luggage, taxi will be too small - probably cost you $40 to $60.

Check out MIAmover, it is best way to get from MIA to Brickell only cost $2.25pp and is quick and trouble free. Hampton Inn is less than half a block away. In the morning Hampton Inn operate a paid shuttle to POM, probably cheaper than a taxi.

Just to clarify, go to level 3 at the airport take the MIAmover which is a driverless monorail, only goes to the Central Station/Car Rental Centre. Then a very short walk to the Metrorail , Orange Line, then get off at Brickell Station. Short walk to Hampton Inn.

Van taxis are the same fare as standard cabs in Miami. Taxi from MIA airport to downtown hotels will cost about $25+tip; then next morning you'll need another cab to get to the port - should be about $13-15+tip.

a couple of years ago it was $30 to Hampton inn

Then $20 with tip to the port in the morning

Get a taxi van for your crowd much easier when you are tired after a long flight

We don't trust Miami taxi drivers, last time we took a taxi from Conrad Condo, Brickell (we could see the ship) he took us west to the I95 and onto POM. When we arrived at the terminal the driver wanted $28. I gave him $10 and told him if he had a problem call the police.

Since you've been traveling 18-19 hours, the last thing I'd want to do is mess around with public transportation. Hop in a cab.

The airport is a pretty dismal area. At least staying downtown you'll have tons of quick dining options.
