Skagway car rental for Canadians

Can anyone confirm that the previous restrictions on Canadians renting cars in the US (not being allowed to cross the border) have been relaxed?

We are thinking of renting a car in Skagway to drive to Whitehorse, but it would be useless if we can't cross the border.

Anyone have the facts?

The facts will be located with the Canada Border Services or similar agency. Relying on a travel forum for such info is a mistake.... how would you know if the advice you receive is correct ? The wrong info could easily ruin your day.

I have a car booked through Avis for May 15th in Skagway and my understanding is that this changed on June 1, 2012 and it is now legal for Canadians to drive a US rental car into Canada. I did read it on a Canadian government website but can't find the link right now. I can let you know for sure when we get back.

This so far is the most reputable Canadian page I have found so far. I'm trying to find something on the government site. I have a car rented in Skagway too, so I want to make sure.
