They will give you more bacon if you ask the person serving it.

There was a full explanation on John heald's Facebook page or blog I forget which. I was really funny as usual.

True, true!

You can ask for a much as you want. They serve it to you simply to help eliminate all the waste, and it also speeds up the line a bit as many people would spend so much time sifting thru it.
