We're sure we want to visit the Zaronga Zoo while we're in Sydney. Their web-site offer's many discount's for Aussie Pensioner's, but I can't find that we, as US Senior's, would get a discounted price? Has anyone from the US gotten this discount? Or do you know how to get this discount?? Thanks!

According to the Taronga website:

Accepted Pensioner Concession Cards are:

(PCC) Pension Concession Primary Card Holder - Australian only

(PCC++) Pension Concession Primary Card Holder - Australian & NZ

(PCC+++) Pension Concession Primary Card Holder - Australian only

But then further down their website they say:

Seniors Card

Only the primary card holder is entitled to a concession rate.

For Australian residents we accept government issued Seniors cards for the primary card holder.

For International guests we accept ID with proof of age 65years and over.

So if you're over 65 I'd say you're eligible !

TAronga is a wonderful zoo!

The ferry ride to get there alone is great.

From the ferry wharf you can take a bus to the gate up the hill or ride the cable car. Top views of the harbour and city sky line form the zoo.

Animal wise, there are all the usual suspects, plus of course the local residents, kangaroos, koalas, Tasmanian tigers, platypus, snakes and spiders etc. Don't forget to ask the zoo keepers where the drop bear enclosure (frequently moved) is!

I always suggest the cable car to the top, it gives you a great overview of the zoo. Where each exhibit is.

Thanks to all! HA! Thanks to Search I'm not falling for the "Drop Bear"!

We do look forward to seeing the animal's that are native to Australia and are not found in the US.

I guess we'll just tell our age (and show ID) when we buy any ticket's. If they don't accept it, no problem.

Thanks to you all!

I'd suggest you ask everywhere, if you save a few $$$$ great, the worst that can happen is they say no.

I'm from Sydney so I know Taronga well.

Yes, you will get a concession price if you present evidence that you're over 65.

I should warn you, though, that it's not an Australian zoo. It's a zoo pretty much like any zoo in the US, with animals from all over the world. They do have a section with Australian animals but it's not big.

They do have a great bird show and it's usually mainly Australian birds, so it's worth checking the schedule when you arrive and making sure you're at the bird show venue in good time (the seats fill up fast).

If you want a zoo that specialises in Australian animals you'd be better off going to Featherdale Zoo, but you'd need to look for a tour as it's a long way out of town.

On our last full pre-cruise day we bought a package that included the ferry and the zoo, we then took the ferry to Manly Beach for a late lunch. Lovely day.

We also took a tour that took us to both Featherdale Zoo and the Blue Mountains. Sounds silly but we found a tiny restaurant that had the best broasted chicken in the town before we headed up to the mountains.

We took the ferry to Taronga Zoo and had a great day. Spectacular views. I second the cable car ride to the top, and you MUST see the free flight bird show. I think the snow leopards and the platypus were our favorites.
