Explore our city and take the rivercat (ferry) from Hamilton to the University and see our beautiful river city from the river and walk through Southbank all of this can be easily done in a day. A day trip to Moreton Island, which is a sand island and only 4 wheel drive cars can drive on. Take a tour on the island and see white sand and clear blue water. A day trip to Australia Zoo if you want to see our wildlife. A day trip to the Gold Coast but travel further than Surfers Paradise and travel to Coolangatta where you will see an amazing stretch of white sand and of course our surf. There is also a trip to the Sushine Coast or Toowoomba or Mt Tamborine. TripAdvisor is a good website to search what to do in Brisbane. October is a great time to visit though we can get some hot days. I hope you enjoy the 4 days in my beautiful city [emoji3]

No. It is about an hour and a bit from Brisbane. No public transport to there, unfortunately our public transport is not the best. There would be tourist coaches that you could book where they would pick you up from your hotel or another central point in the city and take you there and back. If you google "tourist bus to Australia Zoo" you will be able to find bus companies that will take you there and to the other destinations I mentioned before.

Can someone advise me of things to do in Brisbane as there for 4 days in October this year

Thanks Gary & Bev

Ā

I also strongly recommend Australia Zoo. You could also incorporate that with a night or two spent at the Sunshine Coast, Caloundra, Mooloolaba or Noosa are all lovely beachside towns, Caloundra being the closest to Aus Zoo and Brisbane. Coach transfers to Bris are usually about $50 pp each way.

Ā

In Brisbane, I would spend a sunset up at Mt.Cootha just behind the city for great views &/or dinner or coffee. You could easily spend a day around southbank, esp if you did musuems etc. There are beautiful old buildings to explore in the city eg, Town Hall & Casino.

I agree with gazzas127 with the Sunshine Coast and Mt Cootha. I also recommend lunch one day at either Southbank or along Riverside in the city cbd. There are plenty restaurants ranging from reasonable to expensive. On a beautiful day it is wonderful sitting near the river having lunch

BNE airport to/from city can be done by the airport train. I think under $20pp each way and about 20 minutes or so. Or Taxis, about the same time depending on traffic & prob not much more cost if two or more passengers.

Ā

Mt Cootha & surrounds does offer a natural park environment with trails. I have only ever driven up there but maybe do a google search. Any other national parks near Brisbane or even the Glasshouse mountains near Aus Zoo would require your own transport or as part of an organised tour. Having said that, Brisbane is a fairly green city & you will find all sorts of nice walking paths & gardens dotted throughout the city and suburbs.

The university is the last stop. You can take the Miramar Ferry to Lone Pine Sanctuary where you can hold a koala. There is the Brisbane Botanical Gardens in the CBD or the Roma Street Parklands in the CBD as well. As wally_bushy has advised taking the ferry at dusk around the CBD is pretty amazing too.

Lots of research before hand helps and then try to work out a timetable of things to do but always be flexible. You could also organise car hire for a day, it helps that you are from the UK and drive on the same side of the road as us. You can do Brisbane and surrounds in 4-5 days. Enjoy the research, for me it is one of the best thing about going on holidays (other than the holiday/cruise itself) [emoji3]

If you have a spare day you could also do a day trip to Tangalooma, about a 1 hour boat trip to Moreton island from Brisbane. If you stay at the resort they feed wild dolphins at night. Details on the Tangalooma website.

We were in Queensland for four days last week after cruising from Sydney to Brisbane. I'd also recommend hiring a car. We rented from Budget Hamilton which is two blocks walk from the cruise terminal and then returned to Brisbane International Airport before flying back to NZ. We then had the flexibility of going to Springbrook National Park and several theme parks while based on the Gold Coast. There were five of us so it worked out a lot cheaper than paying for public transport. Having previously lived in the UK, the roads are very similar and easy to navigate. Note that there isn't much of a footpath between the cruise terminal and rental car location - just a grass verge for most of the way - so it isn't the easiest to navigate with large suitcases.

Note: just read that OP doesn't drive - maybe this will help someone else.

Hi all

Ā

Just discovered this thread in my search for things to see when we cruise around Australia in March 2017. I read this comment, then googled Miramar ferry. Now I have another question--is this part of the public transportation system or a separate ferry company? All i found was a river cruise to Lone Pine Reserve using Miramar cruises. It says it leaves each day at 10 am from the Cultural Centre Pontoon (maybe by a library--not sure, the site says both??). Then you get 2.5 hours there, and the ride back.

Ā

Is this a option for cruisers? We will be on Celebrity Solstice and will be in port for 12 hours (Thursday, March 23, 2017, 8 am until 8 pm). If we get off the ship right at 8 am, how could we get to this departure location and would we have enough time? I looked on a map and the cruise port looks to be a fair distance from the central city.

Ā

There apparently is also a bus option ("If you are staying in Brisbane city centre area. Catch bus 430 from Queen Street Bus Station Platform 2")--would this be any easier or better?

Ā

Can anyone offer an guidance? I don't know if people are still watching this thread!

Ā

Thanks

ML

I'm not familiar with the ferry to lone pine but I don't think it is part of the public transport network. The solstice will dock in the Cargo port at fisherman islands which is a bit further from the city but not too far. Depending on traffic you could easily get there in under 30 mins. I believe the ships often organise shuttle buses for a fee to the city. I don't know where the drop off point is. If there are taxis at the port you might be best to just take a taxi straight to lone pine & then make your way into the city and back to the ship later in the day. There is also a train line that makes its way to/from the city with stations about 5-10 minutes drive away from the port. You might be able to get a taxi to a station but doubtful there would be taxis waiting there on your way back.

Hi jspqld

Ā

Thanks for this information, very helpful. I found some other threads after I posted this that said there is usually a fee shuttle to take into the city, so that will probably work for us. It appears to stop very close to where we would pick up the Miramar ferry.

Ā

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Ā

was the Budget rental car station on that address:

12 Curtin Ave W, Eagle Farm QLD 4009, Australien

Ā

We also want to rent a car at the cruise port of Brisbane - but google maps shows only one station at the cruise wharf which is located at the Brisbane River... I think that's not the cruise port, or?
