on board credit

Check what kind of OBC it is. Some are limited to only being used towards Land Discoveries excursions. I believe these OBCs come from Azamara. An OBC from a TA can be used towards anything (except casino and tips as noted above) and are refundable - so, if you don't use them, you will get a refund onto your credit card following the cruise. The OBC from Azamara, I believe, is use it or lose it.

On my Azamara confirmation it shows two different amounts under each passenger in OBC category. Nowhere that I can find, does it state that either can only be used for Land Discoveries. Shouldn't it say so on the confirmation if this is the case?

I booked my first Azamara cruise for Sept 2018. I received $1000 OBC from Azamara for early booking and $150 for booking on line. I then transferred the booking to a new TA that is providing $1575 in OBC and I'm getting $300 from Amex Plat. So I'll have over $3000 in OBC.

A couple of questions:

#1. Since it appears the Azamara OBC can only be used for excursions how do I designate which OBC to use for which purchases to make sure they use he Azamara OBC first on the excursions.

#2. I'm traveling in an owners suite so specialty restaurants are included. I also understand tips are included and I'm probably satisfied with the included drinks. So I'm thinking other then excursions we could use OBC for the spa and the gift shop. Would this be accurate? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

You are correct. It was nice to have a "special" drink a few times - say a top shelf brand for a martini or a better beer than the poor included selection - and we used our OBC to pay for that. Also, if you want to try the Chef's Table, you could use your OBC for that.

You can also use your OBC for internet minutes if needed.

Wow, that's a lot of shipboard credit!

1) The ship personnel will know to use up your non-refundable OBC first.

2) Another suggestion is to enjoy an evening under the stars with our "Nights in Private Places." https://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/life-onboard/nights-private-places

I think I have read somewhere that the intention is in 2017 to change the system to allow booking excursions on line before you travel using obc. Is there any update yet.?

The last update I saw a month or two back was just "2017". Interestingly sister company Celebrity has recently announced their systems can now take excursion bookings using OBC prior to the cruise. Hopefully it won't be too long before Azamara functionality allows the same thing. I believe it will benefit everyone because the take up of excursions will improve being able to plan them from the comfort of your armchair at home. It would certainly make a difference to me.

I've been waiting for this announcement too. We have a lot of OBC for our January 2018 cruise and would love to spend some of it on shore excursions. Bonnie, any idea when Azamara will join Celebrity in allowing us to book on-line?

I've not heard a date either. But I'll ask around on Monday.

P.S. I didn't realize Celebrity has theirs functioning already. This must bode well!

P.P.S. We love that Azamara is your favorite cruise line!

Royal Caribbean have just announced go live functionality for all sailings after 1 April to use OBC for purchasing a range of products pre sailing including excursions.

That's 2/3 who share some of their IT able to do it.....

My confirmation doesn't specify either, but my TA confirmed that the OBC from Azamara can only be used towards Land Excursions.

We recently sailed the Journey from Singapore to Auckland. I can assure you that our OBCs from Azamara WERE accepted for Land Excursions.

The confusion on this topic is that Azamara awards different kinds of OBCs for different purposes. Our OBCs were thanks to their 'extended journey' promotion. (ie, a benefit for booking multiple cruises back to back). That type of OBC can be used on almost anything (but not casino chips).

Azamara also awards OBCs as part of an advance/early booking inducement. Historically, that type of OBC is only good for shorex, and not for any onboard purchases. It's a marketing mystery why Azamara would give customers something called "On-Board Credits" for booking early, when the credit can't actually be used for any on-board purchases. Better that they call them ShoreEX Credits, or Land Discovery Credits.

OBCs received from travel agents are another kettle of fish. This post from Bonnie on the topic might be helpful.

now i am confused. ;p I just got off the phone with the LaClubVoyage department and they assured me this recent promo with the $1,000 OBC per person from Azamara can be used for anything other than casino and tipping. I have no desire to book $2,000 worth of shore excursions on a west indies itinerary. :( I intend on Christmas shopping in the onboard shops. I

Just remember the range in the two shops is very limited

Hi ccletzgo, and welcome!

Since your OBC is generic, you do not need to use it strictly on shorex...you can certainly use it in our onboard shops. As uktog points out above, our shopping opportunities include only two shops.

But a new watch or piece of jewelry for yourself would be a nice cruise memento :D

If an OBC says towards excursions and they can;t be used until you are on board has anyone ever not been able to get the tour they wanted while waiting to get on board. I understand this policy is going to be changing but just wondering.

Thank you

Kathy

Yes had to use it in a port we had planned to DIY as everything we wanted in another port was full or cancelled - there were still excursions they just did not appeal to us.

I think you are not cruising for sometime and all the signs are that very soon the issue will be academic as you will be able to use OBC well ahead of your cruise so whilst I've answered your question I am also saying no need to ask for your situation
