dogsdogs - St. Regis will be VERY nice, the best in Fort Lauderdale when it opens! It's right next door to Beach Place, and directly across the street from the beach.

GLCAS - That Sleep Inn is not new. It's been there a few years, and is in a rather isolated area. That Holiday Inn Express is new, but is not in a nice neighborhood. You're better off going with the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street as it's in a much nicer, safer area, closer to the airport and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades with many restaurants, grocery, drug, & liquor stores within safe, easy walking distance... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Extended Stay America is also a nice budget hotel next door to the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street... Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

How about this hotel? Is it really new? We are renting a car for a couple of days before the cruise. Do you know this place? Thanks for your help.:)

Your link didn't work. Which Crowne Plaza are you referring to?

I haven't been inside that one, but it's alongside I-95 south of the airport. There's a large strip mall within walking distance, but if you're going on a cruise the best area to stay is along SE 17th Street (very safe area closest to Port Everglades and FLL with everything you could possibly want within easy walking distance)...

There's an Outback and Del Rio Tex Mex right next door to AmeriSuites. I don't know about Del Rio, but Outback is open until 11:30pm on Saturday nights.

Chuck's Steakhouse (just north of AmeriSuites on SE17th Street) is open until 11pm... http://www.chucksflorida.com/

For something less expensive Waxy O'Connor's (also just up on SE17th)... http://www.waxys.com/

And Quarterdeck (Cordova Road, a block north of SE17th Street)... http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com/

Both of those are most likely also open late, but I don't know their exact hours. There are many other restaurants in the area, but those are the closest to AmeriSuites.

Hi GLCAS,

We love the Hilton Garden Inn -- our children live one mile from the hotel and we stay there frequently during the year. You can book it on line and check AAA rate or call them directly and ask for the cheapest rate. We are paying $70 a night for Christmas week. It is only about 18 months old and is a secret hotel (not too many people know about it since it is hidden behind some fast food restaurants). We used to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott (another new hotel) nearby, but it is further away from our children's house. Since the hotel is new, it is in great shape and they keep it that way.
