We will be going on a river cruise from Amsterdam and decided to stay a couple of days in London precruise. We are staying at the airport (LHR) and the plan is to make our way from the hotel to the airport (each day) and take the subway into London for some sightseeing.
We would really like some helpful advice on what stations we should disembarke to see see a little of London. What would be the best sites to see in our short stay?
We're leaving monday so I need to put something together fairly quickly. Thanks very much for the help.
Depends on where you want to go. There is a map of the tube here:
If you want to go to Houses of Parliament,Westminster Abbey, London Eye, etc., you are best to change at South Kensington and get off at Westminster or Embankment. If you get the appropriate travel card, then you should be able to cover all the zones. I think it is the Picadilly Line from Heathrow, then change to either the District or Circle lines. The tube is actually quite easy to do, just remember to go slowly and don't try to rush. Follow the map and directions and you should be ok. At peak times, the tube can be very crowded and you are packed in like sardines, but other times it can be ok. Also, just beware of pickpockets. We have always been ok and never had a problem, but then we are always quite cautious.
Hope this helps. Not a great expert, as only an occasional visitor to London, but this may help.
