Port to Turtle Farm

How far is the turtle farm from the port? Best transportation a taxi? How much time should we leave ourselves to get back to the ship? :confused::confused:

We did the Turtle Farm in June and took the "city bus." You can catch the bus at the public library which is about a 2 block walk from the port. The buses are really mini type vans. The driver will take you there for $2.50 per person. We are not brave travelers and it was super easy and cheaper than a taxi or booking through the ship. When we were ready to leave the farm an employee that was outside flagged down a bus to take us back to the port. Truly easy!!

The benefit of going on our own was we made it to the farm about an hour before all of the groups, had the place almost to ourselves. We were done shortly after lunch time and were back to the ship in plenty of time!

Thanks for the info. Can you say if you did just the turtle part or the whole park tour? Just wondering if it's worth that much more money.

How long is the ride to the Turtle Farm?

The ride to the Turtle Farm was about 20 minutes. The bus will just stop for anyone they see or for people to get off, so that may increase your time. We did the whole farm, we bought the tickets in advance through their web site. It saves a little bit of money and is refundable if your ship misses the port. We arrived before all of the ship tours so we had the place to ourselves for about an hour. We had plenty of time to do everything including swimming with the turtles. A shower passed through during the day so we had lunch at the cafe. All in all it was a great day! We loved it so much we are going back again this June!

Are the city buses or taxis clearly identified as such? I remember getting a 'taxi' in Jamaica that waved down for us at the airport and we had all sorts of things offered for us to purchase.

Yup. They all look like vans, but it will be clear...just follow the crowds.

You are extremely unlikely to be offered drugs in Cayman. It's not that type of island at all.

If we are off our ship by around 9am, is it possible to do the turtle farm, go back to the ship for lunch and still have time at the beach if our ship leaves at 4pm? Or should we just plan on doing one or the other, beach or turtle farm? I would hate to see us running around super rushed to do everything and not enjoying it as much.
