Default Cove balcony vs. regular balcony

Thinking of booking the Magic to the Med in June '11. I know the Magic is the sister ship to the Dream. What is the difference between the cove balcony rooms and a regular balcony room? Is it just the deck the room is on? Thanks.

On the QM2, they call them 'in hull' balconies. They have a solid steel frame with a large picture window cutout. They are the second passenger deck, right close to the ocean. Regular balconies have the clear, plexiglass walls, and look straight down onto the Promenade Deck. EM

We have cruised in regular balcony cabins, a mini-suite with a longer balcony, and aft corner wrap balcony cabins. Except for an aft corner wrap I would choose a cove balcony over the others I have had. We were on the Dream in December, have booked another cove for next November, and just loved it. It is very private and close to the water, we even had a dead fish outside one morning that's how close you are to the water. You look down on only water, if it rains you stay dry (maybe not in a terrible storm) but regular rain. I just loved it. Would not have liked the Dream balcony cabins that you were right above the deck with people walking, so if you choose a regular balcony go forward and high.

Was on the Dream for the 9 night inaugural out of Port Canaviral regular balcony....When standing next to the ship in ports they look cool because they are close to the water...A couple of decks off the ocean.....Also the regular balconies have glass front and the coves are steel. So you will be standing or sitting up really straight to look at the ocean....The other down side to this is all the problems of seas when the Dream first came out.... Even the short cruise out of NYC was really wet...LOL....Ask Mach.....
All in all though if I do this ship or any in the class I'd probably book one.....

Will definitely have to try out one of these - being that close to the water looks wonderful!

just came off the dream saturday,

I booked a 8b balcony cabin. Didn't like it at all because the lanai on the dream is a few decks down.

I like to sit out there at night and have a drink, just me and the ocean, or maybe my ipod. I find this very relaxing. I also like to sleep with the balcony door open and listen to the sounds of the waves.

Impossible on the dream however

the lanai sends tons of light into the cabin, also drunks come out of the casino or club hooting and hollering like people do at 3-4am when the club closes and they are drunk. Also, instead of looking down directly on the water you see this deck.

I would book the cove balcony, its cheaper and doesn't have any of these issues. My friends were booked in a 7c and I loved it and was jealous of them. We spent all our time hanging out in there room.

I sail on the Dream in a cove on Saturday. I still may not book 1 for Europe for another reason. I want to book the trans atlantice cruise and my parents may also come and its nice to open the balcony divider. The balcony divider on the cove balcony's don't open.

According to the photos earlier in this post, it does look like the balcony dividers open between the cove balcony cabins.

We had adjoining cabins, 2437 and 2439, on the Dream in December. The balcony dividers do not open. I asked Carnival when I booked and they said yes, our room stewart said no. If any dividers would open I think it would be in adjoining cabins.

Default How do you find cove Balconys when booking

I have dummied up a couple cruises on www.carnival.com and have yet to find where to choose a cove balcony. Is this something you have to call for or am I missing something?

It seems that they can show up under ES but not other rates, or on Past Guest. I thought they were all booked for our 10-15-11 cruise, but then went into another rate and found a couple still open. They are under balcony rates. Hope that helps.

When you choose a room, choose balcony. Cove balconys are the lowest priced (included in the quote) 7C. Click cove, then next page will be deck, choose Main, then choose your room.

Cove balconies are AMAZING!!! We had one last month. LOVED it. Slept with the door slightly opened every night to hear the ocean. The being so close to the water was a plus. The balconies are slightly larger than a regular balcony from what I read - 40 sq ft vs. 35 sq ft. Not a big deal but they looked straight to the ocean and then when you look up it is only the lifeboats you see. Much more private in my opinion than other balconies and shaded too. Loved that and sitting on my balcony reading a book with a drink in hand. Wish these were on more ships.....

Default Cove balcony vs regular balcony

We just got off the Carnival Magic on a 12 day cruise and really enjoyed our cove balcony. It was very private while at sea. A few times when we were docked on our side of the ship, we lost some privacy as were were only up 2 levels from the dock- but we usually weren't in the room much then anyways. The regular balcony esp on deck 6 & 7 look right down on the lanai deck 5 & could be noisy & not much privacy. Our friends were in the next cabin(not adjoining rooms) and they opened the door separating our decks which was great. They do say that they close the cove balconies completely if the ocean is rough but we had very good weather the whole time. It's nice to be close to the water- we saw a few dolphins. It is best to book a cove cabin in the front half of the the ship as the galley is right over the cove balcony rooms in the back half of the the ship- it can be noisy during the night and early morning when they are working and cleaning in the kitchen- some friends had great difficulty with this noise at night. The price is great for the cove balcony and we highly rec.

Yep... the difference is location and the location is BRILLIANT!!! The Coves are on the Main Deck, two passenger decks above water... about 35 feet. The view of the sea is amazing!!!

If that kind of thing isn't so important the Coves may not be for you but I have to tell you that I was WAY impressed by my Cove cabin!!

Default Cove balcony

Is this the same as the large balcony like 8A? It's near the aft on the each side of ship. I'm confused.
