Default car rental on Santorini

hi all,

I think we may try renting a car for the day in Santorini, I know some out there have done this. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company in Fira and give any feedback as to roads, parking, prices etc... we'll be visiting Oia (of course) and probably the Red beach. We'll be there in May.

any feek back will be appreciated.

We used Europecar on our first visit, but they have closed their downtown Fira location (only now at the airport) so on our last visit in June, we rented from Tony's.

It was either 40 or 45 Euros for the day, but we needed an automatic, so if you do as well, be sure to reserve in advance, because they are limited in number. Several were turned away on the morning we arrived because they had not reserved in advance.

Parking and driving were very easy, with the only traffic being in downtown Fira; plenty of free parking in Oia and at the beaches. The roads are fine (one lane each way), and the traffic is sparse.

I am waiting for Tony's to reply too, but just sent in the request 2 days ago. Anyone use any of the other companies listed in Fira?

I also emailed Tony's 2 days ago and have not heard anything. I also emailed Drosssos the same way and also haven't heard anything yet. It wasn't a direct email to them, the site didn't list their email, maybe it gets forwarded to them and takes longer. We are going in August so I have a little time to wait.

I don't know the firms concerned, but I do know that much of Santorini closes after the autumn break to just before Easter. It -is possible that the people concerned are living in Athens or similar until the season starts again. Santorini is a holiday island, with little happening thru' winter. Try again in 2-3 weeks.- jocap.

we used Tony's last fall. They were very reliable. They may be closed for the winter and not checking mail as often as usual. We found driving very easy and really enjoyed the chance to explore the island and see more than just Fira and Oia. There are many car rental companies when you get off the cable car.

The 40-45 euros car rental for the day, does that include the insurance, taxes, etc? If not, how much was the total bill including all the other charges?

Thank you,
Chiqui

We used Damigos - www.damigoscars.gr

They will wait for you as you exit the cable car entrance and walk you back to their office. Very nice people who speak excellent English. We paid 42 euros for a Hyundai Atos.
