I am really bummed that all the forcasts for every part of my Destiny cruise for next week looks like bad weather! I have been fortunate enough to never experience bad weather on all my past cruises so I am wondering what the heck you do all day if that happens? Will they go someplace else? I'm hoping it's wrong, and yes I know some people will say they still would rather be cruising in the rain than working or whatever, I still think it would stink.

Well first thing would be to stay out of the rain if you are afraid you will get wet and melt !
Seriously... weather forecasts in the caribbean can be really "dicey"... it may shower for a few moments and then pass right over. Don't place alot of confidence in the weather forecasts for the caribbean UNLESS there is a nasty weather front in areas you are visiting. Showers can be very refreshing while in the caribbean and tend to cool things down a bit....enjoy and stop worrying ! Last edited by travelntreats; April 10th, 2010 at 11:07 AM. |

There is so much to do on a ship that it really wouldn't bother me if there's some rain. Take appropriate outerwear and an umbrella. Don't let the weather spoil your cruise.

Most of the time during sea days, the captain will navigate around clouds if possible. In port, if it rains, most of the time its short.
It's probably has rained in port at least 60% of our shore excursions. Most of the time its very short and the sun will come back out. Only one time did it rain all day and that was our first time to Cozumel. We still snorkeled and did the beach party (kinda surreal).

We buy rain ponchos and keep those in our suitcases when we cruise, if it rains we put them on and continue with our plans. Also you could take umbrellas.
If we were planning a beach day I guess we'd still do it if it were going to be warm enough. We did try to do a snorkle we had planned in Bahamas on our first cruise, it was Feb, and the temp was probably 70 but omg the water was freezing and I believe it was Paradise or something like that island, it was windy and awful, I wouldn't get in but my husband did. That one I wish we had canceled, I couldn't wait to get back on the ship. I guess if it's cold and rainy I'd book some spa stuff. Or simply take a book to our balcony and read for awhile. I'm pretty low maintainence and can entertain myself pretty easily. There are always nooks and crannies of the ship to explore, drinks to be tried, people to chat with. I still would rather be on a cruiseship than working ![]() Cheers, Carole |

On sea days, it ain't no big deal. I've always found loads and loads of activities, and entertainment aboard, and inside the ship. If it's a port day,,,,welll,,,,like kyrisong said,,,take the ponchos, and chances are excellent that it's just a short shower, and blue skys are gonna' show up.
In any case, don't let it spoil your vacation, and especially don't let the possibility of a shower spoil your vacation. "SKY"

The only place you have to worry about rain is in port. At sea, the ship can sail around the storms.
But even in port, the storms are usually short and sweet, unless some large weather pattern is coming through. And the reports tend to be wrong most of the time in them thar parts. |

I remember being on the Freedom at it was raining only on the aft of the ship. People were scrambling to get out of the rain. But it never rained on the forward section of the ship . I am amazed how well those Captains sail around the storms. Shortly the Aft dried and everyone was back on deck . |

We lived in Scotland for three years so when it rains we still go about our busness as usual, of course if we wanted to go to the beach we would have to do something else but there is so much to do that is not a problem. Like someone else said wear a poncho or take an umbrella and enjoy. Life is to short to brood about it.

We had a cruise where it rained evey day! LOL It is one of our favorite cruises to date lol. We got to know so many awesome people that we hung out with up on deck at a bar under cover. In port we just did our thing, the islands are warm and a little rain shouldn't stop the average person. Stop worrying about it MIGHT rain at this point. There are so many GOOD things to be thinking about your cruise right now... like that fact you can do one! Trade ya lol

We were on the Elation in Dec 08 and there was a winter storm so it was cold and rainy the whole cruise except our day in Cabo. Stu the CD had some very fun activities going on ( if you can ever catch his pony races don't miss it ). We still did our Blow hole tour in Ensenada. By the time we got back to the ship we were wet and cold, but we still had a great time. I had never tried the hot choc but after that day in port it was the best hot Choc I had ever had lol...
This was one of our best cruises yet. So don't let a little rain get you down, just go with it...... However we are going back to ensenada in 8 days to try to see more of the port..... |

Thank you all for your replies! I swear I'm not brooding haha! I just wanted some positive comments about it (and a lot of you gave them). I intend on having a good time regardless of the weather. I am bringing my 17 year old daughter and her boyfriend so I was really hoping for the nice weather for them even more than for myself. they really want to kayak, etc in cozumel, we have long winters here in Connecticut! Thanks again.

I never believe the forecaste, but then it does rain at times. We take a plastic raincoat with a hood - try the dollar store - when we get off the ship. If it rains we put it on and do what ever we were going to do.

What do I do when it rains??? Well since we bring rain ponchos you might expect me to say I go on as usual, but really what do I do? I get wet, why, because my husbands camers get the ponchos, they are more important, I guess! ;> Actully he ususally lets me wear a ponch while I am holding his camera under the poncho to keep it dry.
Seriously though, like lots of others said, usually the rain is mild and short, if it is really bad, the captian may chose to bypass the port.

We will be on your cruise as well. Keep checking the forecasts. The chances of rain are going down. I have traveled a ton through the Caribbean, Central America and Hawaii. The norm for every trip I have been on is rain for at least part of the day. Typically it rains early in the morning and clears up, or in the evening for a little bit. It has been very rare to rain all day absent a major system.
This being said, I have discovered the wonders of ponchos. Go buy them at WalMart or Target in the camping section. They are small to pack and work great - no need for an umbrella. I do hope we have good weather for Cozumel. Key West, I really don't care about the weather - it will add character to your pictures if it rains. As I said in the roll call, if it is raining when we sail away, both me and my drink will be on the Lido deck with umbrellas. I don't know about where you live, but here in the Chicago area, forecasts this far out can be completely wrong. In the Caribbean the typical forecast is "partly cloudy with a chance of rain" If you think about it, that forecast basically covers every possibility. |
