Century 3/27/04 - 4/3/04
My family got back from our second wonderul week on the Century. We did the Eastern Carib. three years ago on it and came back for the Western. If anything the excellent service was even better. The cool towels on the gangway when returning from a shore visit and around the pool were great. The bubbly on boarding was a nice touch.
Except for a few things everything went very very well. The only issues we had were the early morning immigration in Key West that was a bit confusing line wise, no excursion person on the pier in Key West to help with a missed tour because of immigration holding time(Since it was the Conch Train it proved to not be a problem once we found their office) and NO refreshments for the Cruise Critic Party. That is it is seven days.
I think their "rebranding" is going very well. Our girls (11 and 13) loved the kid's programs. Century looked so clean and well and not a day older than the last time we saw her. Our cabin steward Shaun and our waiter Alan were excellent.
Weather-wise it was really nice and lucky for us. The crew said the previous week was some of the worst weather they had seen for a whole week. There was lots of ship motion and rain. For us, the only rain was a short shower in Ocho Rios and a heavy but short down pour at the end of the day in Cozumel.
Capt. Bryan was a good time in Grand Cayman and we would recommend him. All the ports were fun including Ocho Rios. Before the cruise we were concerned about OR but it turned out great. We did the falls and toured some gardens.
There were about twelve at the CC party. It was nice to meet everyone there. One couple live just a few streets from us! It is a very small world.
That's it for my short review.

Thanks for the review! I love living vicariously through people whose cruise dates are before mine. We're doing western, too. thanks for the guide recommendation! Right now, we're still the only 2 signed up for the CC party (while later cruises seem to have a LOT more people), so the party might not matter for us anyway.

Thanks for your review jmps! I am disappointed to hear no refreshments at the CC party, not to mention at least half of the people did not show up! What day and at what time was your party? What did they do for you?
What did you do in Cozumel?

The CC party was 10:30 in the morning the first sea day (Sunday). The Cruise Director did come and talk with us and that was great. He used to work for Holland America and Disney. He was a bit late and perhaps the refreshments were just overlooked. It wasn't critical to me once I got a Diet Coke from the Casino Bar but it was suprising. I should have asked him if this was normal but I didn't. We had signed up our kids and they didn't want to get out the kid's programs to attend so we were 50% ourselves.
We had spent a week on Cozumel a few years ago and did about everything you could do there from a tourist point of view. This time we did some shopping and then went to Chaunkanab (sp?) Park to snorkel. The fish were great but the coral is looking pretty sad. We had docked downtown so shopping was very convienent. We shopped for hair braids, diamonds, and tee shirts. We bought two out of three. Can you guess which one we didn't buy? The Disney Magic and an NCL ship were docked with us. That was really neat seeing them all right together.

One thing I forget to mention that is pretty interesting...
As the boat was leaving Key West a couple of men and a woman came running/weaving down the pier. They had obviously been drinking above their limits. The ship was about ten to fifteen feet from the pier when they got to the ship. A bunch of people were watching from the railing and it was a real sight to see.
To our amazement the ship went back in to the pier and the gangway was lowered and they staggered on. Off the ship went again, about ten minutes late.

I am truly amazed the ship went back!!!! I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing. They were so very fortunate. You'd hope they learned their lesson.

I think he was from India but I am not sure. He was really wonderful. He put our daughter's stuffed dogs in positons like reading each night and even made a dog from a towel.
Thanks to everyone for you nice comments about the short review.
Regards.

Thanks for your review JPMS!
Question about Cozumel...have you ever spent time at Dzul Ha? Heard it was great for snorkeling...better than Chaunkanab (sp?)..and much less crowded. Thinking about renting a car and just travel beach to beach...any recommendations?

Princess....they usually (key word) have it the first sea day...in the morning. (The CC Party)...
You have a great roll call going and I am sure a good amount of folks will show up. But, sometimes people just decide to do other things....for whatever reason.
My first cruise we had about 30 show up...55 had actually signed up on here.
The last 2 times we didn't have enough for and "official party"...but on the Mercury we met almost every day anyway
Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda!

Our cruise was even more interesting. Not only did the ship go back for two people who missed the boat (and who got a long round of cheers when they did get on from everyone along the upper decks who saw what the problem was) but the next day two different people had to be brought to the ship by one of the port boats.....
Pictures on my web site (of course!)

We haven't been to Dzul Ha. We did rent a jeep and go around the island three years ago. That was really fun. We stopped at a beach open air restuarant on the SE side of of the island. We also went to the ruins.
