just saw the video on my Comcast..gotta feel kinda scary out in ocean..half power and big waves makes for alot of sea sickness..

this is suppose to be one of the worst seas in the world and the
video does prove that out..it s not like the Splendor loosing power off
the coast of Mexico..

This cruise is not operated by Polar Cruises, as reported in the news, but by http://www.traveldynamicsinternational.com/

That's correct Vancouverdoug, with one clarification. The ship is currently under charter to Grand Circle Travel, so GCT is in charge of getting passengers home. Polar Cruises is simply a tour operator that sells Travel Dynamics' program.

Also this ship is nowhere near the size of some of the bigger
cruiselines. This ship holds 100 passengers so it is probably
not longer then 200 feet, maybe.

Bigger ships would not be tossed around so much, but
I would rather not find out..

According to this site: http://www.traveldynamicsinternation...k.asp?shipid=3

The ship is a little over 4,000 tons, 290 ft long. Like a large yacht.

YIKES! How terrifying this must have been! I hope the passengers and crew are all well. This is one group that may very well kiss the ground when they disembark!

It's an interesting design, very reminiscent of the original easyCruise ship. Maybe slightly larger, but not by much

Just image google "easycruise 1" and see. I was on that puppy between Barbados and st. Vincent, and my gosh it rocked and rolled. The thought of taking something about that size to Antarctica is frightening.

If i was ever to do Antarctica by ship I'd want some tonnage.

This same ship also lost power and had steering issues after leaving the pier in Little Current (Manitoulin Island), Ontario during one of its weekly port visits during this past summer. Its anchor caught a channel buoy and dragged it about 100 yds. The was very very close to running aground in the main shipping channel which is very narrow and can have a current of up to 5 or 6 knots.

We watched it happen.

The poor woman is 80 years old....said she was sea sick for two days after getting off the boat....
