Not positive, but I think this a discount given to families of NCL employees. I don't know how much it is.

Yes it is a discount for family - don't know why they call it friends. You have to be very related, mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent or child. It is a great discount. My mother and I are using it to cruise with my daughter on the Gem - yea!

It is for family and close friends but not all ships, sailings, cabins selections are available. Employees get a list of sailings and prices quarterly. Plus if the ships sells out you can get bumped from that sailing with little to no warning. Not worth it in my opinion, otherwise it would be a great way to sail with a family member that works for NCL.

Do you know anyone that works for NCL? They should know about it and be able to give you information. You would need them to turn in the 'application' for you to see if you are approved for the discount and the cruise.

I think the employees get on the ships for free...in fact, I think they get paid to do so

Maybe it's some sort of super secret insider rate LOL

Exactly. it was the same with Princess. We were not allowed to discuss it with ANYONE, even family and friends. If they wanted to go, there was a special department to book it, and they were given the itineraries and princes then and only then.

Yes, they pay, and no, they don't get paid. It is a good rate, but not at all free.

yep, just like airline "friends and family" rates or special rates for the travel industry on cruises etc. There are good reasons for this of course.

No need to ask this here. If you are fortunate to have family crew member or close friend to get you this rate they are the ones who would have the answers

The search function on NCL's site is your friend.

Information from NCL's website...
Norwegian offers a benefit program with numerous plans to choose from; you can design your own benefits package.

The following list summarizes benefits offered by Norwegian to eligible Team Members. This is not an expressed or implied guarantee of benefits. Detailed information regarding available benefit plans is provided to newly hired Team Members during New Team Member Orientation.

Norwegian's Benefits Program includes:
Medical, Dental and Vision plans
Basic Life Insurance Plans
Supplemental Life Insurance and Dependent Life Insurance
Short and Long Term Disability
Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account
401(k) Retirement Savings Plan
Paid Time Off (Vacation, Floating Holidays, Sick Time)
Team Member Assistance Program
Cruise Discount Programs (Team Member and Friends & Family)
Service Recognition Programs
Prepaid Group Legal Plan
Credit Union Membership
Training & Development Opportunities
Tuition Reimbursement Assistance

And the link for the page, https://www.ncl.com/about/careers/co...yment/benefits In the search engine I typed employee family cruise discount.

I'm SURE this has changed, but for those curious my sister and BIL both worked for NCL many (many, many) moons ago. At that time, the family discount rate was $25 a day as long as I traveled with my sister or traveled on the ship where she worked. Cabin assignments would be made at the last minute, and more times than not we wound up in a suite. (my first cruise ever was on a family discount on the SS Norway in a pool deck suite which ruined me for life lol) I can only guess what the family policy is now!
