Default Internet on the TransAtlantic

We're sailing on the WindSurf TransAtlantic in a couple of weeks.....3 years ago there was no internet service on this voyage but I thought I'd read somewhere that it's now available...Does anyone know?

I am also interested in this. I am on the msy Wind Spirit behind the wind surf. What route do they take? Do they head north first, or do they just make a straight shot.

Thanks

Hi Sharon,

We were on the '09 crossing, the year after we sailed with you. From what I can recall the internet service was a little better, but still not available for the entire 14 days. You should be able to get some sort of service for all but the very middle I'd have thought.

Hope you both have a great trip; say hi to Bob from us :-)

I think we were on the same cruise, the one where Captain Boylin made an unplanned stop in Madiera for toilet rolls and water processing parts that didn't show up in Lisbon. Is that correct? I remember the Captain announcing that there would be internet all the way across and I don't remember any outages.

Hi Roy,

We were on the '08 crossing from Barbados to Lisbon....It sounds like you were on the Nov crossing from Lisbon to Barbados....Is that right? There was no internet offered on our voyage...

Different cruise, we were the spring eastbound. But now I'm curious: how did you manage to set sail without sufficient toilet rolls? The mind boggles!

Hey Sharon, there was internet. Do you not recall the trivia contest early in the cruise? Someone smuggled their blackberry in to the main lounge and amazed the hosts with their trivia knowledge, having emailed the questions to someone back in the US. The internet service was available for at least 4 or 5 days out of Barbados and into Lisbon.

The following year we skipped the quiz but heard the first few questions. We must have been on our way to or from and passing through the lounge when they started the quiz. I heard the first question and though "hmmm, I know that". The same with the second question, and the third. By question four I'd realised that the hosts were using the same quiz book as was used the previous year. Same book, same questions :-)

Afterwards I suggested that they might want to start at a different page in future, particularly on the crossing with all those repeaters, but they didn't really get it.

Behind with emails but will drop you a note soon.

We stopped in Madiera for a day. The needed items were forwarded to us there and loaded on day 3 of the crossing. We also topped up the water tanks to tide us over until the new parts were installed enroute.

This was my first voyage on Windstar. I had previously sailed with Silversea and they left for 4 days at sea with a 1-day supply of laundry detergent. That Windstar identified a problem and took timely action to deal with it immediately put ahead of the supposedly 6-star Silversea in my book.
