Please post info on the port of Bridgetown, Barbados here. (Yes, I know I typed it wrong in the title, can't change it now.)

The last time we were in Barbados, we booked the ships scenic tour of the island, which included a tour of the Concorde Museum. I mention this because the Concorde museum was fantastic.

If there are any airplane buffs out there, the Concorde was a magnificent aircraft, which could travel supersonic and cross the Atlantic in just a few hours. I am sure there are tours available (shipboard and private) that include the museum. It is hangered out by the airport. We thought the museum was the highlight of that tour, and would consider doing it again. I do not remember any details or prices (sorry), but it is worth consideration. Tickets for the museum can be purchased on site.

Just adding an option to consider

Now that's an amazing story. If you know, how in the world did a Concirde museum wind up in Barbados?

John

The Concorde would fly from London to Barbados during the winter holiday season, once a week I believe. It also flew into Barbados when HM Queen Elizabeth II visited Barbados. It is quite the airplane, but the seats were smaller than coach on most US airlines. It was all first class travel with prices to match, but the attraction of the Concorde was the speed. A very interesting tour if you get the chance.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to put the Concorde Museum on my must see list. I've never been up close to one, let alone been a passenger.

Last time we were in Barbados we went to Lobster Alive instead of the heavily advertised Boatyard and luved it! Be sure to check it out on CC and here's a link I found just now!

John, in NYC, they have a concorde displayed on the Intrepid Air and Sea museum on the battleship right next to the port where NCL docks. You can see it from the dock area and from the ship, or take a tour. A must see!

Lobster Alive is right next to Boatyard. We are thinking of going there next time, since we have been to Boatyard twice. Harbor Lights was another suggestion by the port and shopping lady.
Boatyard has become very crowded and quite dirty. It was very difficult to find beach chairs and umbrellas the last time we went.

Default Harrison Caves// Fishermans Pub//St. Johns Church

Been here three times--last time the Harriosn caves had just reopened--
this is a must see on this island--NCL does not have tours there--so u must book with someone else===tour times are contolled with amounts of people--run by the government--chek this wesite

http://harrisonscave.com/

the last tour we arranged went to the caves and around the island a bit--all most all day for $75 a person--we had a van with six people in it.
we stopped in Speightstown at the famous Fisherman's Pub for the the local
buffet including flying fish etc. That was our second time there and it is one of my favorite places for a real local lunch.

The seond place i like on the island is the old church St. Johns--a beautiful site--we could not get in there last vist because the funeral for their deceased prime Minister was happening the next day--and they were preparing the grounds==we only drove by.

this one place i would take a island tour if you have not been--the island is big and it will be quite hard to see it all in one visit--I prefer private tour guides over NCL and there are many--just google on the web.

Sounds like a great tour. A tour of the caves sounds like a winner. I would also like to see the island. We usually book private tours as well. Since this will be our first time on the island, would also like to see more than just a beach.

Default Glory Tours

Our first time in Barbados (a while ago now, I can't remember when exactly) we did the "Best of Barbados" tour with Glory Tours (http://www.glorytours.org/Combotourspage.html). They go to the caves and the west end and the wildlife preserve and then we went out on a glass bottom boat to snorkel with the sea turtles. It was a great day and our tour guide loved his island and telling us everything he knew about it.

The caves were very interesting to see, but that was before this recent renovation shut down, so I don't know what they have changed.

Default Sail and Snorkel

DW and I really enjoy snorkeling and have participated in and also arranged charters for other CC Roll Calls. We are planning on setting something up - assuming there is interest - for either Aruba, Curacao or Barbados. Aruba has several good sites; Barbados has "swim with the turtles" combined with regular snorkeling; Curacao is new to me, but our port time allows for the possibility of a snorkel/sunset sail combination.

I don't enjoy the crowds typical on the ship's shorexs and so I use smaller (give or take 12-20 pax) sailing catamarans, 1/2 day (3-4 hours) charters. In every trip we have beat the ship's shorex price and had a great experience.

Obviously, it's way too early to know any details. I'm posting this on the specific subthreads and will use those threads to monitor interest. At some point in the future we'll be able to gauge the interest and get more specific.

If this interests you, please respond on the thread (or more than one) of your choice.

Default Snorkeling

We have snorkeled with the turtles here twice. The second time was with Calabaza and it was amazing.

I have not been very lucky on finding any good snorkeling anywhere though in Barbados.

I saw this online today.........
Barbados Sightseeing: Museums: The Concorde Experience

You, too, can fly an aeroplane! Not just any plane but the most graceful and elegant plane ever created. And you can do it in Barbados, in the new hi-tech Museum dubbed “The Concorde Experience”. It is not to be missed, for it is truly an adventure.

In the Museum, you get the opportunity to fly the Concorde yourself. It is a simulation, of course, but so realistic it gives a tingle to your nerves as you guide the plane along the runway on the screen in front of you, pull back on the throttle and see it rise gradually and gracefully into the air and then guide it on its journey – to wherever you wish around Barbados. You can do with it things which most people have only been able to read about or imagine, making the plane dive, climb, loop and so on and, if you are careful enough and have not crashed it, you can have the immense pleasure of landing it on the same runway from which it had lifted off under your own guidance and piloting. It is an experience to be long remembered

NCL offers this tour with a half-day beach break. Something totally different to do in the Southern Caribbean. Ted

One Concorde is actually there to view, with access to the interior. The wheels alone are over 4 feet high. What a great pic to send home!

Default Barbados

We've been to Barbados 4times I think. The first time we took a NCL tour on a boat. We went around the island, stopped at some beaches and swam with the sea turtles. The second time, we took a cab to the Hilton and got a day pass to their facilities -- that was great -- a beautiful beach, bar and pools. I'm no sure if they still offer the day pass, but it was very nice. Once we went to the boatyard -- a nice beach, but a bit crowded. The food was somewhat expensive but good. The last time we were there, it was the Barbados Independence Day. It was very interesting because we were able to watch their ceremonies from our balcony on the ship - the participants and dignitaries marched to a large field where they marched and gave speeches. Very impressive! It rained that day so we just did a bit of shopping and returned to the ship. All in all, we like Barbados -- it's a beautiful place. One thing I haven't done is eat a flying fish sandwich! ( don't you just love watching those little fellows "flying" in front of and beside the ship?
