Default Best way from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral and Hotel Recommendation

We will be cruising on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas. We will be flying in a day early and flying out the same day we get off the ship. What is your opinion as to the best way to get from the Orlando airport (MCO) to Port Canaveral? What hotel would you recommend as well? There will be a total of 6 adults (2 each per cabin/suite).

Any and all opinions are welcomed. I did not see any recent info after doing a search on this forum.

Thanks!

Eric

I would definitely rent a car. We stayed at Residence Inn and liked it very much. You will love Freedom. We're moving up to the Allure in four weeks.

The best way is a no-brainer. Take SR 528 (the Beachline) east. There will be one toll ($1.50) a few miles past the airport and you can use cash. Just stay to the far right lanes. Then, just follow the road signs to the port.

Now, as to what hotel, airport area or port area (e.g. Cape Canaveral)? If you want a port area hotel, a simple search here will uncover many recommendations.

we prefer to let someone else do the driving and use shuttle services.

last December we stayed at the Radisson at the Port and took Beachline transportation...both were okay

this December we are staying at the Comfort Inn-Cocoa Beach and using their Fly, Snooze & Cruise pkg.

if you scroll down further to the NEW I WORK IN PORT CANAVERAL thread there are alot of suggestions and recommends for hotels and transportation.

Thanks for the tips everyone! The "New I Work in Port Canaveral" thread is a treasure trove of information. I must have missed that in my search.

Thanks again!

Country Inn and Suites is very nice and close to the Port.
If you want beach and ocean, Hampton Inn or Laquinta
Oceanfront are good and only 2-3 miles from Port.
As for transportation, shared shuttle van like Beachline or
private transportation like Executive vip limousine.

Gonna check that thread out. We always use Coco Beach Shuttle www.cbshuttle.com and have never been unhappy. As of last Oct they will also give you a 10% discount if you mention Cruise Critic Discount when booking. About to book our Oct cruise (8 of us) with them but was just checking the boards for new info. Actually trying to make our own excursion before our departure flight. CB Shuttle helped us with that last time when Royal canceled our excursion (NASA) on the way to the airport due to lack of interest but there were 9 in our group booked on it? CB Shuttle took us, dropped us of, picked us up and took us to the airport at our requested time cheaper then Royal anyway.

We have used beachline and really liked them. The communication was great.
