That's good to know...about GFS hams. We have bought Honeybaked in the past, and although they are good, they are also quite pricey. Personally, I'm not much for ham at all, and we have been substituting pork loin roasts on the typical "ham holidays". That's what we had at Bob's parents' house yesterday for Easter dinner....pork roast. I never did get around to making the cookies, but with pie, brownies, Jello, and candy, we had plenty of sweets.

Snow in the forcast for us...what March giveth, April taketh away....so say the forecasters...

They will only have them like a week before the holidays its an in and out thing or at least in our Columbus store they are . My wife has system on how to pick one out LOL it has to have a flat "butt" not rounded on the back side she says those have more pre- slices of ham and less waste. Who am I to argue she always picks out a good one

I picked up a ham a few months ago, had it cut into a few center slices and then had both ends to bake for a dinners.

The butcher told me I picked a perfect ham, in all his years he had never seen a ham as perfect as the one I picked. I have to agree it had very little waste. I will never be able to do that agan. It is a gamble when you buy a whole ham if you are getting a good one or crappy one. I picked the ham for the price.

Easter was nice we also ate way to much, too many desserts but the leftovers are great. Grandkids spent the night no school today. So Grandma had 2 sugar high little ones running around here last night.

Now that they have gone home and Larry is golfing I can clean my house and get back to normal whatever normal is.

Good morning.

Guilty! We had a "Honey Baked Ham".

An you ain't lying when you say they are expensive. That big puppy cost $75.

Kathi had a $25 gift certificate from work. So when we walked in, I'm figuring that we might have to fork out, at MOST, is another 25 bucks. Boy was I in for sticker shock.

A ham is a ham in my book. And I don't think most people can tell the difference between grocery store hams, and those stores that sell specialty hams. It's all in the way it's cooked.

I grew up in a home where my parents thought everything needed to be cooked WELL DONE. Any kind of meat.

I got an early appreciation of beef jerky.

Good Morning All!

MZ: There's not much to talk about when it comes to a Bake Sale. You just need a LOT of good BAKERS to make something other than just "Brownies" and "CupCakes"!! We're a Ethnic group...Serbian....(think Greek sweets and you'll know what we bake). We use lots of walnuts, which are way too expensive right now for some dumb reason and butter and eggs.
I baked something that had 9 eggs in it. So, there's no big planning or proposals needed. Just find yourself some good BAKERS and ADVERTISE. All our cookies and baked goods were priced at $.50 a piece. So you need to tell the group that is going to be baking to bake and or cut their goods accordingly. Not too small or not too large pieces.

Chilly here in Michigan and partly overcast. AND AGAIN WINDY today.

Dave: I had heard on the radio that the price of HAM this season went up 45%. Well, God Bless you for using that $25 gift cert and ADDING another $50 bucks to get that Honey Baked Ham. Just wouldn't happen over here no matter how good their ham is. I'd really love to try that GFS ham one day. Never gave it a thought to go there!
I know last year I bought a Cumberland Kroger Ham and after baking it it was SO SO SALTY I took it back to Krogers and got my money back. I've never - ever done something like that, but it was horrible. Okay enough about all that from me!!

Have a good day all..............I'm out of here to get busy. And look at that...the SUN just peeked out. Yippee!

Wow $75 our ham was whopping $15 and we have a bunch left over after 8 people eating lunch,. leaving her mom and sister some, Its going to supper tonight. Along with the mashed potatoes we bought there , yea we were lazy. We love GFS buy thier frozen chicken breast have them all of the time , we buy pita bread ,gyro meat. Its amazing the stuff , they have some amazing looking deserts, almost bought one of thier prime ribs last year they were sampling them man where they good , but quite pricey but considering how big and how much you got they were reasonable.

GFS has the BEST Pita bread hands down. Our local restaurant uses them for their pitas and I love them. Nice and soft.
And I've tried the "Already cooked Beef Roasts" a few years back and they are perfect. Just expensive!! But NO WASTE, so there's something to be said about that.
Here's a short story on how I got to try a Beef Roast and bought 3 of them at the same time.

I walked into a GFS store and saw the roasts and also saw that a entire shelf of them were MISS-MARKED price-wise. I took 3 of them at $2.99 a pound instead of $6-$8 a pound (don't remember what the real price was). I pointed out the ERROR to the store manager and he said thank you so much for letting me know and take as many as you want at the lower price for letting me know and not just going through the register line. I froze one, used one and gave one to my brother. That's a once in a lifetime happening!!

End of story.

We shop GFS once in a while mostly for bulk food items. We have a fantastic meat market here in town where I get all my meat.

What happened to our nice warm weather, I am not happy about the furnace running and having to close up the windows I enjoyed the fresh air while it lasted.

Hiya Amy!

Cha-ching on getting those roasts at less than half price, K2. And the best part of the story is that you were honest in pointing out the pricing error.

I finally got the yard mowed yesterday. It was looking a little raggedy. I'd planned to do it on Monday. The forecast said only a 10-20% chance of rain. And the sun was out early. So I got on all my grubby clothes, ready to head out the door. But on the way, I looked out the window. It was raining.

So yesterday I put on my winter jacket and got it done. There were actually a few snowflakes in the air.

I'm beginning to think that April will be cooler than March was.

Dave

Dave: I think you're right about April being COLDER than March....it's that way already.

42 degrees here right now. BUT with WINDCHILLS it's really 34 degrees out there. Brrrrrrrrrrr

Hope your back is feeling somewhat better after that SHOT. OUCH!! I heard some type of screaming earlier....that must have been you!! As soon as this Dr of yours gets through satisfying the insurance requirements and the covering of his "A*S" you'll be able to schedule a Disk Surgery and eliminate all that back pain for good. Pain shots MASK what is still going to be there....a "bulging disk"!!! When you wear out a bearing in a motor you either replace it or throw out the motor and buy a new one. Well, we all know Kathy won't THROW YOU OUT, so the alternative is much easier and quicker. Getting old sucks, but you CAN and SHOULD do something about it!!
Okay, I'm off my soap box on this subject.
Ooops, one last thing....When Art's disk bulged I drove him to the hospital and he was flat out in the BACK SEAT. He walked out of the hosp the day after surgery....painfree. Now I'm done!!

I have a steadfast rule I never mow yard with a jacket on. I jumped out Monday when the sun came out and it warmed up for a while guess we were far enough south.

Hey Amy!! I'm close to you. I live in Bedford Hts and work in the city of Cleveland.

Thanks for the tips Kathie. I work up to snow on the ground, at first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. It was definately warmer in March than it has been in April.

Welcome tropicalpink83! There are posters on here from the Akron area, the Columbus area and the Dayton-Cinci area, as well as me from NW Ohio and a couple ex-pats now living out of state and even a Michiganger.

The Days Inn on US 20 in Perrysburg is now an Econolodge and is about a mile from where I live. I worked in Bowling Green years ago, and our older son lived there for several years until he moved to Michigan a couple months ago. Our grand daughter still lives in B.G. with her mom. Are you frequent cruisers?

There were a few flakes of snow here, but we were watching the Tigers play in Detroit on TV and it was snowing pretty good there yesterday afternoon. The Tigers were playing Tampa Bay, and the TB pitcher, Burke Badenhop is a Perrysburg kid who grew up in our old neighborhood. He is a few years older than our kids...probably about 29 or 30 now.

Bob came home from the store a little while ago with a bouquet of roses for me "just because"...as soon as I had them trimmed, in the vase and on the table, one of cats knocked it completely over. Water and flowers everywhere...fortunately, nothing broken. Now the flowers are on the mantel, where they are safe.

I have to agree with KK in her assessment of hams...they are not all the same. My MIL used to work for Kroger's and would occasionally buy a ham from there. Kroger hams are salty and have a nasty spongy texture. I buy mostly Meijer brand smoked deli ham for Bob and A.J. to make sandwiches, but I don't eat it. If I make a sandwich, it's usually turkey or a BLT.

Tonight is taco night...no need to cook til tomorrow!

Sics; A bouquet of roses from Bob "just because"? OK, What did he break, what did he buy?

As for the shots in my spine, here's the Reader's Digest version. There's not a thing I can't do, and normally it's pain free.

I have a whole line of disintegrated disks in my back that have deteriorated from 30 years of driving truck and jogging. (Including a couple of 26 mile marathons.) So the spaces where the nerves come out of my spine, for my left leg, is tight. And the nerves gets inflamed and swell on occasion. The shots have stopped this. So I'm back to pain-free, for months.

Because of the extent of deterioration, surgery is only a long-shot. And not worth the risks at this time. I can still drag a refrigerator out of the kitchen, and know I won't be hurting the next day.

Thank you for your concern, but I look at this way; I may be a couple of inches shorter than I was in my 20's, but I still can get on most of the rides at Disney World.

Dave

Hi,
I am in Parma Heights and very close to Parmatown. A friend of mine lives in North Royalton off State Road. Do you work near home? I am not working now, but worked in downtown Cleveland for most of my work life. I don't miss it, but that's where they paid the most money. If you wanted a job close to home, the pay wasn't very good. Maybe we can meet sometime. Have you ever been to the French Quarter Café at State & Wallings? I love their sandwiches.

I drive past Bedford Hts all the time visiting my parents in Novelty (Russell Township). My ex-boyfriend is a BH cop.
I worked at the Sheriffs Dept downtown at the Justice Center up until last July. Darn Sheriff Reid!!! Ughh!!!
What kind of work do you do in Cleveland?
Do you have any upcoming cruises? My hubby 34 and I 28 are cruising May 12th for our 3rd wedding anniversary.
