Your ship will either be at anchor just outside of the old port in town or will berth at the new Tourlos port north of the town. If your ship is at anchor, you will be tendered right into a little pier in the town. If you are berthed at Tourlos, you will most likely use the ship's shuttle bus (for a fee) into the town (it could also be walked, but it is about a mile alongside a road mostly without sidewalks.) Either way, once you are in the town, the south bus stop is at Fabrika Square. One way to get there is to walk past the windmills and the Theoxenia Hotel (on your right) and when the street starts to curve left and basically ends, you are in Fabrica Square.

(Note that the three red/green/blue ship symbols indicate the ferry dock in town *not* the new Tourlos port where cruise ships dock -- it is further north)

The local buses are very reliable and run on a posted schedule. The bus station located near the windmills (there are two different bus stations on opposite sides of the town) has a bus route that stops at some of the beaches including the very popular Paradise Beach. Paradise is a large sandy beach with lots of facilities including chair/umbrella rentals, rest rooms, a restaurant/snack bar, and even a swimming pool (never understood why anyone would go to a gorgeous beach and use a pool). Not sure of the current chair/umbrella rates but expect it is about 20 Euros (for 2 chairs and an umbrella). There are also some small boats that leave from Paradise and take passengers to some other (more desserted and less crowded) beaches such as Super Paradise.

I recommend catching a cab to Paradise Beach and catching the bus back. Bus stop by windmills is very hard to find. Not many cabs on the island so you may have to wait a bit.

Default Catching bus to beach from mykonosuj

I recommend catching bus to Elia beach, certainly the best beach on the island. The first bus leaves at 11.00 and the next leaves at 12.00. It is 1.90 euros one way. Make sure you catch it when it returns. We caught the 16 .20 as the next one leaves at 18.20. It can be very popular and there is a mad rush to get on it. The bus station is just around the harbor.Easy to miss it as it is very small. actually walked right past it twice! Ask if you can't find it. By the way price for two sun beds and umbrella was 12 euros.

Do you know when the earlier return buses stop? Perhaps something around 13:00 or 14:00? Thanks.

Default Return buses from Elia beach

When the bus arrives at Elia beach it immediately heads back to Mykonos Town. It takes about 25 mins to get back? There is certainly one leaving at 12.20 and I think one leaves at 13 .20 but can't be sure and I feel certain there is one at 14.20. Be aware that there is some nudity on beach and many gay couples but everybody seems to mix together without any problems.

Our ship docked at the port and we were able to walk to a small beach to the left of the port (the beach was easily seen from our state room). It was a short walk up and down a hill on the road (many other passengers made the walk, as well). The beach was located alongside a local restaurant. For $10 we received all-day rental of TWO great, wooden lounge chairs with nice cushions and an umbrella, use of the restaurant's restrooms and their servers occasionally walked around taking drink and food orders. The beach was clean, ocean water was clear and it was a great day - we would do this again. We had the ship in full view and it was short walk - we weren't worried about missing or catching buses, etc. Very relaxing day.

What was the name of the beach where the ship docked?

If the ship docks it will be at Tourlas harbour, which is about one and a half miles from the centre of town (to the north).. There are some beaches along that coast but often they aren't ideal: if the meltemi wind is blowing, they will be affected.

The beaches that being mentioned here - Platy Gialos, Paradise, Elia - are all one the south coast of the island and are protected from the wind. They're not far from town - Mykonos is a small island, so it's only about two and a half miles from town to Platy Gialos, for example.
