You are right. When I was on my Greek Isles cruise in June, I noticed most of the European men on the beaches were wearing trunks or board shorts. At first I assumed they were American, but then heard them speaking French, German, etc. I don't know if the trend is changing or what, but I kind of missed seeing some of those guys in their speedos. Back to the topic at hand, I agree that Americans are waaaay too conservative and sound quite ridiculous with how prudish they are. It's a double-standard that people are so horrified by half-naked men, but naked women are acceptable. But welcome to America and its double-standards! I'm a flight attendant and at my company we have some cabin crew who also work in porn. Some are males who work in porn and some are female. No one has a problem with the guys who work in porn - in fact, it's kind of a novelty. The guys love them and the girls love them. But people do talk crap about the girls who do porn. Especially the other girls are really bothered by it. Double standard! I personally have no issue with anyone wearing as little as they want on a cruise, as long as they have a body for it. I think that sometimes people don't realize how they look. And I think its a matter of respect for other people who will be in the pool with you or laying out with you. No one wants to see some 400 pound man OR women shoved into a tiny piece of fabric. It's kind of gruesome. And maybe those are the types of people that posters on other boards are talking about when they say they are grossed out by speedos. I doubt if these people wearing next-to-nothing were in decent shape, people would be so quick to judge. But maybe so. Michael

Well, I work out 4x a week and am in pretty good shape, but if I ever got to the point where I didn't think I looked decent in one, I would quit wearing them. But until, its speedos for me!

Yeah, to each their own, my point is that it shouldn't matter if someone is 400 pounds or 140. Live and let live. Fashion, style and how a person "looks" is subjective, and it's unfair I think to judge them according to subjective standards. I.E., you're overweight and should NOT be wearing a Speedo, or Tux, or mini skirt, or whatever. What right does anyone have to to police what should or shouldn't be worn?
I'm not overweight, but seeing an overweight person, or older person, or whatever race or body style, in their choice of clothes is their choice - not mine. I think it's OK for us all to have our own opinion of what we like to look at or enjoy viewing, but also think it's pretty shallow to not put a "filter on it" and make gross generalizations. Yes, it is fairly typical to see European men (and not all are Colt material) with stomachs, or balding with a Speedo. SO WHAT? Live and let live...enjoy what you prefer looking at, but I'm not in a suit for anyone's benefit but mine, or my partners. If ya don't like to look turn away! LOL.

Sorry Michael, but this is double standard, too. And exactly this attitude is what kept me until now from taking a pure gay cruise. I wouldn´t enjoy being on a vacation trip on a ship with guys who wouldn´t enjoy being around me only because I don´t have a colt model body. And no, I am not fat and yes, I do wear speedos. I am a bit tired of guys that try to reduce others to their outer appearances. Oliver Oliver, relax. I'm definitely not a worked-out, swimsuit model. I have a bit around the middle myself. But I also have the self-awareness to wear swimming trunks that aren't going to enhance my love handles. I know how I look and how I should present myself. I'm not the type of person who is delusional about my body type, nor do I have a "screw you" attitude in which I walk around looking like crap in front of people. I also have never been on a gay cruise and don't seek out perfect-looking people. My point is that I like to look at attractive people - men and women - and feel that people need to be realistic about their body types. Too many people live in this politically-correct world where they have this whole act like they think obese people should be able to offend everyone with their size. But the truth is everyone likes to see attractive people and there's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make me shallow. It makes me realistic. Trust me, I wish I was in good enough shape to lounge around in public in a speedo. Michael

There are all body types represented and a lot of them are in speedos too (and there is also a clothing optional deck) and the vast majority get along just fine.

How does knee-length board shorts hide love handles any better than a speedo?

[quote=topguy;30156741]The problem with "What Not To Wear" is that, I'm pretty sure because they are American, they would always say, hands down, that men should never wear speedos. So to say they are the experts might be a bit of a stretch.

"What not to wear" is totally subjective, and different for many people. Sorry for the reference, but in looking at gay videos, how the Hell many sub-categories are there? Mature, young, overweight, Bear, smooth, daddy, jock....you name it, there's something for everyone.
"Everyone enjoys attractive" is not an objective, but a one-size-fits-all statement. What I find attractive, you may not. Hence, making a declaration, "all [fill in the blank] men should not dress like this to look hot." Huh? Please, Top Guy, they're the experts? That's what kills me about media and reality shows. Reality is in my home, me wearing what I want to wear, looking like a monsieur trčs sexy may be my defintion by 1/2 of you, while the other 1/2 think I'm a middle-aged, gray man who should only wear board shorts! LOL!! And I don't care... I'm with an earlier poster, who wears the tight trunks at the pool / solarium but covers up in board shorts to walk around.
