There are lots and lots of posts about this.

We've never heard of anyone bringing wine on board who's had their wine taken away. We took 4 bottles on our Galaxy cruise and paid the then $10 corkage fee for each bottle. No problem. And, if you're worried about bringing hard liquor on-board, put it in your checked luggage (safely padded and best in a zip-lock bag) and you shouldn't have a problem.

As for them taking away hard liquor you purchase in port, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. You could just put it in your pocket if it's small.

All the above being said, we usually bring 2-3 bottes of wine to drink in the dining room and then puchase more bottles on those nights we're not drinking our own. We also bring a small/medium bottle of rum and a 6-pack of coke for mixers. More than that is just too much weight in the luggage. And, we still purchase drinks in shows and bars.

So, I say do what you feel comfortable with and let Celebrity enforce what they want to.

We just came off the Century and we took a couple of bottles on board and weren't given any trouble with it. We took sodas and water as well, and never were asked to hand it over.

We didn't purchase any liquor in any of the Ports on the ship at all. But if you do purchase liquor at the Duty Free Shop on the Ship then you don't get your liquor till your last night on ship. If you purchase liquor at any of the Ports sometimes they take it away and return it the last night on ship, other times they don't bother taking it from you. I would just carry it in a back pack or carry on of some sort if you do purchase at any Port, worst that can happen is they will keep it till the last night.

They do X-ray everything you carry on, backpacks, handbags, ect......we had our liquor in our backpack and they didn't take it away. I have no idea why, maybe it was just luck. I know a couple of people who took liquor on board and didn't get it taken away at all. And we also didn't have to pay a corkage fee at all. There was actually a corkscrew in our cabin already. We didn't take any of our liquor to our table though, we just invited people to have a drink in our cabin before a show here and there, and we also took our bottle to the Hemisphere to share and didn't hear a peep from anyone.

We were on the constellation (transatlantic) in May. We bought a couple of bottles and put them in our beach bag. The first day(St. Thomas) they let us keep the liquor (yes they did x-ray) but they took a bottle from our friends. The second day (St. Martin) I bought another bottle and put it in our beach bag and they would not let us keep it. It is really hit or miss. I think you have a better chance of keeping alcohol when you first board rather than buying it at the various ports.

I suppose the thing that bothers me most about this policy-regardless of whether it is actually enforced-is that it presumes the passenger (the person paying the money!) to be a miscreant, cheapskate or individual who cannot be trusted to act responsibly. This is totally at odds with all the PR about treating a passenger "famously." I'm a total Celebrity fan but I think the company would be better served by a policy which simply said that the abuse or misuse of alcoholic beverages would not be tolerated-period-and stopped this confusing and demeaning sporadic confiscation policy.

I always remember my three sons running behind the security gate because they wanted to see what the case of beer I was bringing on looked like when it went thru the x ray machine. I was discreat however my children were not. LOL

For wine: The corkage fee on wine only applies to wine taken into the dining room.

We took about a half dozen bottles on our Summit cruise, also took some on prior RCCL and Princess cruises. No problem. For use in room we've always just called down to room service or steward to ask for classes and corkscrews - no problem.

Hmmm-

How does a cruise ship charge corkage if patrons can't bring wine on board?

We brought a case on board in our packed luggage and had our room attendant deliver it to the dining room each evening - it was no problem. We paid corkage, of course, but it

was nice to have the expanded access.
