Music and evening entertainment

Could someone please describe what evening entertainment is like. We do not need or expect anything wild and crazy, but are wondering what our evening would be like after supper if we did not go to the casino. Is there a band that plays any lively music, or is it mostly island music and/or piano bar? Any music on deck in the afternoons? Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

There is plenty to fill your evening.

There is a band "Siglo" that is quite good. They perform a variety of music including some classic rock. We found them to be the most contemporary option.

There is also generally a piano player, Hal Fraser.

There are Les Gauguins who perform classic polynesian songs.

The cruise director will do a show or two, as will the staff.

On a few nights, local Polynesian groups will come on-board for Polynesian shows.

Hal Fraser is no longer on board... missed him this time.

Siglo is still there and going strong. Music is not island at all all - they play anything and everything - requests are welcome. They play in La Palette at night . The piano player plays in the Piano bar before dinner.

No music on the deck in the afternoon unless its a special event like sailaway or local performance.

We had a few local troupes come on board and of course Les Gauginnes.

Hal Fraser is no longer on board... missed him this time....

For good? That would be a shame.

I recall reading a post several months back that Hal had broken his arm and hoped to return to the PG some day, but have not heard anything since.

I just got back in Oct. and the pianist was an Argentinian named Reuben. Very accomplished. We enjoyed listening to his music, and Siglo was a versatile group. An excellent group of Tahitian singers, musicians and dancers performed the last night to make our cruise even more memorable than it already was.

In July we had somebody else. While he was good we mised Hal. He had become synonymous with PG for us. I heard that he wont be returning.

Don't count too much on the casino. It is tiny with about 30-40 slot machines and two tables. I never saw anyone at the tables during my cruise.

The casino is one of the areas that is to be revamped. I heard that PG is taking it over - it is contracted out now. Will miss Lorena. She is a darling. Looking forward to the new machines and brand new piano bar and casino.

Siglo isn't always onboard, they rotate in and out with other, more variable bands. As does Hal (if and when he recovers), and other lounge pianists/singers. Then there are the Gauguines, who do island music.

Quite lively at night, really, depending on the passengers, of course.

We were on the August 10th cruise. Normally we don't hang out in a piano bar but really enjoyed Rueben in the evenings. Siglo was the best and played several evenings. The best was the Siglo and Friends night. They had several of the crew sing with them including Verity the Cruise Director. There was also a vocalist on board as a passenger on his second sailing, Jamie Lawrence. He was fantastic and sang twice in the main theatre and once for a session before dinner in La Pallete. The casino was really nothing and the slots paid nothing. I'm glad to hear PG is taking it over. We were never bored and in fact enjoyed our evenings on board the PG more so than on mainstream cruises.

On the second last day of my cruise I was waiting for DH near the Piano Bar. After awhile I told Lorena that I would try my hand in the casino for the last time as the slots were very tight. Anyway the second pull and I got $500. After collecting my winnings I gave up on DH and went to the cabin.

Robert Wan received my winnings the next day and I came home with a lovely pair of unusual shaped pearl earrings!

Actually I did ok in the casino in 2008 as well. The Casino manager was a Tahaitian guy and he hinted that people were winning on a particular machine!

We also hang out in the casino so we can chat with Efren now and then ....
