While the cruise was not what they paid for a lawsuit seems a little rediculous...IMO.

Hey, go for it, if the ship is empty, just think of all the service you will get.
If I was booked on this ship, I wouldn't be cancelling anything, I/We would be there and having fun.
All those passengers wanting a full refund and are talking of sueing, seems to be an American past-time, something for nothing.
They had a vacation, stuff happens, equipment breaks-down, I bet all the passengers ate well, enjoyed the entertainment, went to the casino, the whole nine yards, even some probably ventured to the "Topless" deck. For us, being on-board would be great

Let's see, I got to go on the cruise...no I didn't get to go where I wanted to go but then it only cost me 1/2 price, on top of that I get 25% off my next cruise, and I'm STILL not happy.

I think Carnival should counter-sue for misuse of oxygen which results in damage to the environment.

You have to love their attitude. I'm one for whom the cruise IS the destination so while I would have been disappointed to miss the ports, I'd have considered it a delightfully inexpensive vacation considering the 50% / 25%.

How many of us would be Ecstatic to actually have the engine break down on your ship and be given this type of compensation.

I can certainly tell you, I'd be partying it up for the rest of the cruise and I'd already be planning how I'm gonna use that 25% off the next one.

I totally agree!!! Yeah....it'd be a little disappointing not to go to scheduled ports, but I'd get over it real quick with the 50/25% refund. Being on the ship is a huge part of the fun for me. Food, casino, hanging out on Lido deck....oh yeah.....the drinks, shows, etc, etc.

Even if they didn't hear about the full refund prior to leaving port, they still got a hell of a deal. To the sue-happy people, I say: "Get over it!!!" Just my opinion....of course!

You all know what happend to the recent QE2 world cruise? Overbooked. PAX that got bumped got 100% refund, complimentary cruise on the Sapphire AND a FREE future voyage on Cunard.

Now hows "THAT" for some compensation

FYI while cruise shopping on various sites, it I select Carnival, all ships, caribbean,and sort by price guess which ship is the lowest price? Hmmmmm...I f the rates on this ship keep going down, I may be in for a 5 day cruise, LOL!! I would be mad too, considering how much research and planning I put into the ports, but if you read the contract I am pretty sure that Carnival isn't obligated to offer anything if there are problems like this (weather, missed ports, mechanical, etc). I think 50% refund and 25% off is pretty generous. I am shopping for my next cruise right now...sure wish I could get 25% off

I sailed on the RCCL Majesty early November of 2002. After a port call at Nassau we sailed for RCCL's private island, Coco Cay. When we arrived the wind was a little brisk and the water a little choppy. Since it was a tender port, I decided to remain on the ship. About 1500 passengers decided to go to the island for a day of sun and fun. The weather was supposed to improve but it actually got worse.
The people on the island were unable to return to the ship and spent the night on the island. The ship sent food and supplies to the island and another RCCL ship diverted to the island and also sent food and supplies. There was minimal shelter on the island so it was a hardship for some but an adventure for others.
They finally got all of the passengers back on the ship the next morning by 11AM and some of the passenhers were reminiscent of the show "Survivor".
At 11AM they announced that all of the ships bars would be serving free drinks, not just well, beer or wine, but anything you wanted, top shelf included.
We missed our scheduled stop at Key West and many were upset about that.
Later in the afternoon, while everyone was getting wasted at the bars a letter was being circulated from the company stating their apologies for missing Key West and stranding passengers on the island. Mind you we were all still downing those free drinks till 6PM. I felt bad for the crew as they weren't getting any tips and setup a tip jar urging everyone to contribute.
Back to the letter, RCCL told us that the cruise fare for that cruise would be refunded and we would also receive a free cruise certificate good for a free cruise of the same duration and category as we had on our present cruise. That included port charges and taxes too.
At first everyone seemed happy about the compensation, I know I was thrilled.
After a while the people stranded on the island overnight began complaining because everyone sailing got the same deal, not just the people stranded on the island. The 500 or so people who never left the ship got the same deal.
Some people just are never happy.
