in for duty. Or whatever that saying is.

Until tomorrow.

But I'm all yours for now, doesn't that count for anything?

OMG PPL. I brought home one of those roaches on steroids from Florida. I opened the zippers on my carry on and then left. An hour or two I came back and unpacked. THen walked about 20 ft into my bathroom and this MASSIVE roach (palmetto bug) was on his/her back and squiggling. He was about 9 inches long (ok he was 2 inches if he was a mile). And he had on a Forida Gators jersey so I know he was from Florida. Bob rented a back ho and picked him up and buried him in some land fill after he shot it w/ a Smith and Wesson 357 Magnum.

Just checking in to report I will live. I have been extremely sick for the past day. I haven't been this sick in years. I couldn't even keep liquids down. I think it was the first time ever I was starting to get worried if something didn't change by tonight I would be off to the ER. It also didn't help we watched contagion last night. Luckily we have nurse Sharon who has been excellent and Pete who had to do things today he probably never thought he would have to. I told him it was a glimpse into our old age when he will be stuck taking care of me since I'm older.

ROFLMAO!! OK if Pete sticks around he's definitely a keeper! Too cute. As you start feeling better don't overdo. More toast, banana and maybe very plan chicken breast.

The very few times I've been "that kind of sick", Bob's been really pretty good about taking care of me and I remind him "that's why I have a guy who's 8 yrs younger.... to take care of me." Except that of the 2 of us I'm the healthier and I'll probably have to take care of HIM!

Glad you've turned the corner. You can graduate to chicken noodle soup but avoid the veggies in it, as right now fiber isn't your friend.

Yeah he cleaned up things today he probably never thought he would have to. Then apparently one of our dogs was also throwing up. haha It really was his lucky day but I did try to at least keep it interesting for him by getting sick within various locations of our master bedroom/bath. Needless to say he has now moved to our downstairs room.

I'm just sticking to liquids today, heck its only been a few hours that I have been able to keep my ginger ale down. Tomorrow I'll start toast and some bananas. Pete also baked me up some chicken breast in case I feel really adventurous by tomorrow night. Ironically enough we were going to make that healthy chicken noodle soup that Coreo posted on the recipe board already this week so hes going to make that tomorrow. Hes even nice enough to start me out on a batch that will just be the broth, one of the chicken breast and a handful of noodles but nothing else. My fever also looks like it may finally be coming down although we aren't sure because I took some advil. Either way I'm staying home tomorrow. If I passed this to other people in our lab it could take us all out. Luckily since I worked from home on Friday I have all my work stuff so my boss told me not to come back until I'm 100% better and to just work from home if I have to so I don't push it.

BHT: Did he have a ridiculously large smile on his face? We've misplaced a Florida resident.

And, Tom, I'll join everyone else in wishing you get well soon.

Coreo, what a lovely dinner.

Jan and I are still in California. Currently in Manhattan Beach after a wonderful time up the coast in Cambria and Big Sur. Going down to Laguna Beach tomorrow to visit friends.

Larry

Ahhhh kids. When I lived in San Clemente, Laguna (artsy as it is) was the center of the Orange County counter culture/drug culture. Many a visit to Greedy Beady so I could handcraft earrings and "love beads".

Manhattan beach: home of airline pilots and flight attendants. At least it WAS. I don't know if they could afford it now. Here's wishing you safe travels and blue skies and don't get caught smokin' the chronic!

COREO pretty sure you could hear me screaming like a 10 year old when I saw that insect. If Bob hadn't been there I guess I'd have put a cup over it and hired someone to remove it. I was NOT touching that thing.

Fast weekend! I was still unbearably fatigued and barely got my dogs and meals taken care of. I'm often lazy. This was more like paralyzed w/ fatigue. Not a fun weekend. I now need to take a bath. Someone PLEASE fill the tub and then come by to shampoo my hair. I'm waiting!

Tom-
Get well soon!

Sharon-
Don't pick on our pets.....we can't help that we have roaches the size of a car! Our neighbors sprayed their yard while we were on vacation and when we got home our driveway looked like some kind of nuclear bomb went off......those dead buggers made it as far as my yard before they died.....yuk. I'll email an update soon.....life and a wee sinus infection knocked me out last week.

Larry-
If you don't come home soon who's gonna be in charge of hurricaine season prep! Mark has already announced that it's all on me while he's working over night and I thought I'd be kind enough to reassign it to YOU!

Hi, all!

I am a weary wanderer lately, with two straight weekends of volunteering and escorting a group to WGI Championships here in town.

You know how no matter what the activity, you can find a subculture somewhere that celebrates it? Well, WGI is Winter Guard International. Years ago, people who loved marching band decided that there was no reason to completely abandon the activity in the winter months. So they created winter guard and indoor percussion. Rather than try to describe it, here are some videos:

Here is a great highlight video: WGI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

And a couple of the percussion groups:

NORTHCOAST ACADEMY INDOOR PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

MUSIC CITY MYSTIQUE

Well the world championships (they really are international - groups from Japan, Belgium, the UK, and a couple other countries are there) are in Dayton. Guard one weekend in April, percussion the next. They bring in FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLARS to the Dayton area for hotels, restaurants, etc.

So as part of my group escort travel fun, I got to spend both weekends watching shows, coordinating activities, you name it. Fun, but exhausting.

My favorite moment was when I was escorting a group from California to the percussion event. They had landed at the Dayton airport, and we had taken the bus to Steak and Shake for lunch (which they loved). (By the way, Larry, we also took them to Skyline, which was also a big hit!). It was a beautiful day, and as we were getting ready to board the bus after lunch, we heard the drone of airplane engines. We looked up, and RIGHT OVER US there were 21 B-25 bombers, who were doing a fly-over as a tribute to the surviving Doolittle Raiders, who were having their 70th reunion at nearby Wright Patterson AFB. I believe there are only 5 remaining survivors. Of course I told my group I had arranged that for them...

Tom, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better! Pete had called me for motherly advice yesterday morning, and I have to admit I wasn't very helpful, but I tried! Glad to hear you are on the mend.

I am planning our quick California trip for June. We are spending a couple days in Anaheim and then a couple in Santa Barbara. Any suggestions? Not really looking forward to spending time with my crazy sister-in-law, but looking forward to the trip nonetheless!

Thanks everyone, I'm almost feeling human today so that's a good sign.

Larry glad to hear your vacation is going well. We have friends who live in Redondo Beach. Its a really nice and fun area.

SANDY I'd have gone whacky if I came home to a driveway or yard full of those bugs. My gosh it was HUGE (and they say everything is bigger in Texas....nuh uh!)

Judy just thinking about Jan and Larry being gone makes me break out into song... "All by myself... don't wanna be... all by myself anymore....Livin' alone...I think of all the friends I've known.. and when I dial the telephone... no body's home....." CUE CELINE DION
ALLLLL BY MYSELF.... DON'T WANNA LIVE...

SUE did Pete want you to say "Spray him w/ disinfectant and take a room in a hotel until he gets better?" LOL Cool on the fly over.

I feel better today. Yesterday I was just totally zapped of energy and spirit. Perhaps I was staging sympathy symptoms for Tom's stomach situation. (Like that alliteration?)
