Ok, this board is not visited quite enough for my liking so here's an incentive. (I'm sick at home and am growing out of things to do) So here goes:
We will play an alphabetical port of call or city you've been to game. Each player has to post a place with the next alphabetical letter in order, and describe it in a few words, maybe something you did there or something that makes the place unique. Hope I won't end up playing alone here so here goes... A - Akureyri (Iceland) Apparently Iceland gets only 5 days in a year of full sunshine and we were there for 2 of them. It's a small colourful town with not much to do really but sample some Icelandic cuisine, take an excursion to the mountains or maybe visit one of the two museums there. We just relaxed and took a walk around since it was one of our last ports of call in a 2 week cruise, so we were tired.

Dubrovnic - we spent half a day walking around the old city, whilst cruising the Adriatic. It is so beautiful, but packed with tourists. It's full of restaurants and souvenir shops. I highly recommend it.

Etna - Sicily
Didn't really go there by cruise ship but worth a mention. Took a tour there with a very good sicilian guide who showed us the damage of past eruptions and rocks that had been thrown miles away. Went up in one of the refugi and up part of the volcano, the other one has been destroyed by it's last eruption. Went down a cave formed by one eruption...incredible colours inside due to all the minerals in lava. Had a sicilian picnic by some countryside and the next day went to Etnaland water park for a fantastic fun and relaxing day. Would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Florence - We went to visit the tower of Pisa and the cathedral. Many souvenir stalls.
some info Florence's museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The most popular and important sites in Florence include the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural genius. Wander some of the oldest streets in the city until you reach the Arno River, cross the Ponte Vecchio, and experience the "newest" area of Florence, the Oltrarno. Be sure to set aside time to see the vast and varied art collection housed in the Pitti Palace. When you grow weary of museums and monuments, head outdoors. Spend a day at the Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte to experience an enchanting view of Florence. Florence and its magnificent treasures await your visit! |

Genoa - First time there we went to the cemetary, very interesting. Lots of statuary and tomes dating back several 100 years. Then to the Martime museum which was great.
The second time, we just walked around, went to Christopher Clumbus's house and had lunch in this little place we found off the beaten path. Lois

Labadee (Haiti): One of RCCL's private island beach stops. Visited many years ago, from what I have seen on these boards it is a vastly upgraded facility. Pretty beach, but we were loaded with jelly fish the day we were there. Also, did the banana boat ride, but wouldn't do it again. Too, fast for me. LOL

Naples. Not the nicest of places but totally, authentic Italy.
Plenty of opportunities to buy a genuine Fendy bag from those nice men on the pavement.

Q: Porto Quetzal in Guatemala. This is the gateway to Antigua Guatemala, well worth a visit and about 90 minutes away by bus

Ravenna in Emilia Romagna Italy.
Nothing to see in or near the port, except for beaches. The town (20 mins ride by shuttle bus) is worth a visit if you like mosaics or shopping. It is small and can be easily toured on foot, as long as you take the shuttle bus. It is close to beautiful Bologna. |

Sunday - Most of the shops shut. A little cafe for lunch and coffee with a view of the harbor (with our ship the Costa Magica towering over everything) A leisurely walk before a couple of beers and back on board. Good times.
