Default hotels under $200 per night in Sydney and Perth

We will be in Australia (Sydney and Perth) next February and March. Looking for nice hotel for under $200 per night. Would like to be on the Rocks in Sydney.

You can get rooms with shared bath for under AUD 200 at the Bed and Breakfast Sydney Harbour located in The Rocks. Rooms with private baths run slightly more than AUD200. (I've stayed there; my friends have stayed there; my relatives have stayed there--we all love it.)

Another option would be booking through Wotif.com for both Sydney and Perth. It's too early to book for next February and March, but you can look to see what's available and what the rates are now.

Hotels in Perth aren't cheap. You would be looking at anything from $190 upwards. No breakfast. If you are in Perth at the weekend it's cheaper. Most of the hotels are booked solid Monday to Friday morning for "fly in - fly outs" but weekends are a better option. This "boom" has been going on for about 18 months - and no sign of letting up. I have to book accomodation for our "fly in - fly outs" (Business people coming interstate) on a regular basis - so I know how hard it is. If you book well in advance - you could jag a bargain. wotif is a good site to check. There are lots of options - depending what you want - where you want to be. Perth is a small city really - compact is a better word - and no where near as lively as Sydney, Melbourne etc. Not trying to put you off -but it's a fact. It is constantly "under construction" and extremely expensive. If you were to pick hotels, I'd happily give you the low down - or anything else you might be interested in in Perth.

Try www.hotelclub.com - depending on what sort of quality you're looking for there are hotels in both Perth and Sydney (the Rocks) for under $200AUD/night in February on there at the moment.

I'm not familiar with any hotels in the Rocks but I can recommend the Travelodge in Perth - I've stayed there myself 3 years ago and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It's only a 5 min walk to the city centre and the main shopping area (which means it's reasonably quiet in the evenings) and it has a CAT bus stop right out the front (free bus service or at least it was 3 years years ago). Plus, it was on the airport shuttle route.

CAT buses all stop at 7.00pm at night - but they are a great way of getting round the city through the day - all free. You can access Perth Transport by visiting http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au - gives you all the train, bus timetables, trains, ferries, maps, quite useful. There is a tram that goes from Kings Park through to Burswood Casino - and reverse - gives you a commentary (think that's how it's spelt) as you go along - that's hop on hop off - but far from free - or cheap.
