Were you given a reason for the change?

You will find more expert advice on the Celebrity board.

Have you looked at deck plans? Do you know if this is an upgrade? Those are important pieces of info for us to help you.

in looking at the deck plan, you went from Port to Starboard in the same general vicinity. 8108 connects with 8110 - otherwise they look like the exact same type of cabin, just on the other side of the ship.

8108 is right next to suite. The balcony is cut off some and not that private. You had better cabin before. Same category cc. I would try to get another cabin. Celebrity has a nerve. A shipmate of mine had that cabin and was not so happy. Good luck!

If you booked through a travel agent (which it sounds like you did), Celebrity will direct you to talk to your agent. Even if you consider the cabin change a downgrade, if its a higher category than what you had, if you weren't marked "No Upgrade", Celebrity can upgrade you.

Welcome to cruise critic. Just a word of friendly advice. Please put the discussion topic in the title line. This helps us all use our cruise critic time wisely.

Your topic is certainly not urgent. When you are due to fly out the next day and you've been told your flight is cancelled, this is urgent. If you're in the embarkation city and you can't find your passport, this is urgent. If you've been offered a paid upgrade and have a limited time to decide, even this is urgent.

You will probably find out you have a cabin that is just as good as the one you were moved from and you will have a wonderful cruise. There are thousands of people on your cruise and there are sure to be snags along the way. Those of us who spend time on the cruise boards try to minimize the snags and avoid situations which are disagreeable to them. But we also know you have to expect a few glitches and just make the best of them because for the money, the good far outweighs the bad.

I would also like to add that I've had connecting cabins on Celebrity 3 times and never heard even a peep from the people next door. It was next to the service elevator and it was so quiet we booked the same cabin again and again.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I just looked at the deck plans. And like packed&ready! -- I would not be happy with that cabin -- the suite next to it has their verandah rounded outward -- you lose privacy as well as view.

And since it is a connecting room -- you will lose something in your cabin in order to make room for that door.

I sure hope that you get your old cabin back.

On an Alaskan cruise we have found that many of the captains facing the port side facing the glaciers longer than the starboard side.

Agreed, I wouldn't want 8108, and do not see how it is an upgrade. Same cat. as 8115.

Definitely speak to your travel agent about this change.

I dont know if it is Celebrity who has changed it or the booking agent Jetline Cruises who have made the mistake. From ready various forums it is def a down grade.Jetline say that they are going to try and rectify it but I dont trust them.Feel like cancelling but dont want to lose my money. Is it worth contacting Celebrity ??
If your receipt from the travel agency has the cabin number listed, but it was changed, it's probably what Celebrity considers "an upgrade." (you can probably double check by looking at a deck plan that has the different cabins keyed by color. According to what Krazy Kruisers posted, both cabins are purple. If they are the same exact category -- you may have to call Celebrity and ask for the exact categories that both cabins are...then maybe some bigwig requested that exact cabin and you were moved for that reason). Passengers are not downgraded in terms of category so either they consider 08 to be a higher category or like what I suggested, someone wanted 15.

Your TA will have to be the one that gets it changed. If Celebrity had called them, asking if you can be changed, then the TA should have called you. Even if Celebrity had told them they wanted to "upgrade" you, your TA should have asked for a little time so they can contact you first.

We have been marking up bookings "no upgrade" just so we can get our desired location and keep it. If your TA didn't mark your booking that way, you might be out of luck, but you should still bug your TA.

I can tell you that, having just been on the Infinity this past December, that you really won't lose any balcony space and that the dividers between the balconies reach all the way to the railing and are of frosted plastic material that resembles the sort used in bathroom windows. Not sure you'll even lose much privacy over what could be seen from the people in the elevators on the port side had you stayed in 8115 as they are mostly glass. We had friends in 7138 (right below 8104) and their balcony gave a partial view all along the forward, starboard side of the ship and all the balconies forward of it just like the elevators did on the port side. Personally, I wouldn't sweat it unless you are concerned about what you are losing with the connecting door.

Default Alaskan Cruise ....not urgent at all now.

Thank you so much to all of you for your help.We have now been given cabin 8107 which is 2 away from our original 8115.The agent has given us free airport transfers as comp so I feel much better about this and am now looking forward to my holiday.
As we are going in May I wondered as you have all been so helpful and some have been to Alaska on the same ship, what sort of weather can I expect? And which excursions could you reccommend.

Also, join your Roll Call to see if there are others who might want to share an excursion with you.

Just as a point re: "Just on the other side of the ship" may seem like no big deal to some but to others it matters a lot.
We book our cabins very far out to get just what we want. We would be very upset to be moved to the identical cabin 'just on the other side of the ship'. We have a real preference established over 80+ cruises and It matters to us.

I wouldn't like getting moved either without being asked. They sometimes think that it will just slide by and they won't have to cough up any compensation.
