Default Crown & Anchor Status Question

My boyfriend has lived with us for 10 years. On our first 2 cruises he did not join us (my children and I) because of his work schedule. I hadn't thought of this before since it seemed so far off that we'd achieve any status other than gold. At the end of this trip my children and I will be Platinum, but he's still going to be Gold. It seems to me there should be something to elevate his level to ours. The only difference between us and a married couple is a piece of paper, and many marriages don't even last 10 years anymore. What are the qualifications for a domestic partnership? and if we qualify, how would we fix his status? I know the whole thing about people in your group not qualifying just because you are travelling together, but this sort of seems unfair if he's not granted our status. Any ideas or thoughts on this?

I'd hate to have him marry me just for my status ?

Katie

I'm guessing this is a stupid question since there are views and no answers... I may try to call Royal tomorrow to see what the answer is, I was just hoping someone here knew the answer...

Thumbs up

Domestic Partner rules will apply and it should not be a problem for him to become Platinium.

You answered your own question. He has to earn his own points to achieve platinum status. Though you are not travelling as a group that rule would apply. I do believe though that as long as you are travelling together in the same cabin he can accompany you in the platinum check in and boarding area.

Eng, that was my main concern, however it doesn't really seem fair that it wouldn't carry the same weight as a married couple. I guess if he lived with me for a few weeks, it might be different, but wouldn't a husband or wife get the same benefit as the other spouse?

S, what are the rules for a domestic partnership, do you know? and where might I find them?

I also may have somewhat misunderstood your situation as I now think your relationship could be considered a "common law marriage". I was not trying to be judgemental about your relationship and if you took my post as such I apologize.

Your travel agent should be able to find out for you.

My son's partner was granted diamond status on their first cruise together (his partner's first RCCL cruise). They had to work with the loyalty ambassador on board, and it took a couple of days, but it worked. And they didn't have to prove domestic partnership, just state that they have a common address.

I was told that married or not each one had to earn their own status. Untill my husband became Gold I was also told that it was likely that although it being up to the captain or the ship that as long as you were in the same cabin you would be able to have him accompany you to say, the welcome back party.

I just wish they could get my cruise points right. I just got another email that says we each have 14 credits, yet when I log onto the site it says I only have 7...Still waiting for a call back...

Eng, I didn't take it that way at all, thanks so much everyone for the help. Since it's not an issue until AFTER my next cruise, and I'm going to book my next cruise onboard, I'll talk to the LA then. Thanks all!

If you log into C&A on Royal's website they have a link to enroll Other Members of Your Household.

And if he's never cruised before he would not receive your status until after the completion of his first cruise

My mistake, it was his partner's second RCCL cruise. Still, he got diamond based on my son's status, did not have to earn the points. And, for that matter, while our son had cruised before, his diamond status originally came from sharing our address.

You were given incorrect information. The Captain might run the ship, but C&A runs the loyalty program.

When married, no matter if wife/husband has more cruise points.......it's the highest number that both parties are recognized as.

It was C&A that told me this information...I don't understand what you mean by the "highest number that both parties are recognized as?" We each have 14 seperately. But it dosen't show when I log in...

Then C&A gave you wrong information.

Let's say you have taken more cruises than your husband and have reached 80 cruise points that would make you a Diamond Member. Your husband automatically earns Diamond Status because of your total points and because you are married. One of the fringe benefits, I might add!

Earning individual points is quite easy. There are many couples where the wife will go on cruises with girlfriends or maybe a mother-daughter get away.

I see what you mean, I understand that. What I'm not getting is why the difference in what I have from C&A through my email, (which I intend forward back to them when I'm called back. And what shows up on the website when I log into my C&A account is completely different.

You call C&A(or even do the online chat in the C&A section on www.rccl.com)......tell them to link his account with yours(and that you both have the same address).....he will then obtain the same status as you
