You're kidding yourself. No one can cause you to do anything - they can cause you to WANT to do something, but the choice of whether or not to do it is yours and yours alone. You are looking for someone else to blame for your own choices. Common, but it's still an exercise in denial.

The law, FWIW, has nothing to do with it, so I'm not sure why you brought it up. Even if the law says an action of yours is legally justified, that means your choice was justified, not that you had no choice

WoW...this post was interesting to read through. I can not believe how many posts are about balcony issues! All my cruises have been balconies because I am a smoker and I also am up late at night (early morning) and like to have convo out on the balcony as I am watching/listening to the ocean...this is what I am paying for!! I didn't realize how my behaviors could be affecting others...I never had a neighbor complain about my smoking or my late (early morning) convos....jeez, wonder if I offended someone and they just not say anything?? If I get to the point where I quit smoking and stop the late night convos and these issues would ruin my vacation, than I would plan accordingly....cruise on a line that did not allow balcony smoking....book a spa or other room that does not allow smoking, book an inside room or choose something that would coincide with my lifestyle- I would not think it would be too much fun to be worried or upset if things might happen because I booked a balcony room! That would not be a fun vacation I am very easy going and if I ever got asked to put out my cig, I would immediately oblige....Some people, I just don't get...anything to complain...life is too short~~had a lady sit down next to me in a casino while I was smoking...IN THE SMOKING SECTION and started to wave away my smoke and ask me to put it out....I kindly reminded her that they had a non-smoking section and a whole 3rd floor that was strictly non-smoking and I do not go there and complain that I can't smoke to the person sitting next to me...like what it that all about??? Sorry this is so long,...life is just too short to not speak to people politely or to not be respectful to others...if they yelled "Shut up", u would think they were able to hear the heartfelt convo and shut the door or suck it up for one night....if there was a repeat performance, then I would say to POLITELY address it... Ok, I think I am done now...

We rarely use our air conditioning at home but apparently all of our neighbors use theirs. Their dogs bark at all hours, their roosters start to crow in the weeee hours and continue on through the day ( yes their Roosters ) but they don't hear it , not even when their dogs are barking at 4 am and don't stop until 7. We hear it but not them or it does not bother them. I don't complain to them. It is part of life. Just as when you are on vacation and your nieghbors are smoking on their balcony or talking where you can hear them. I think some tiimes you just have to "suck it up" ! Unless the people are shouting loudly or banging on the walls or purposfully being rude (foul language when they know there are children in ear shot and things like that). Everyone is entilted to their good time. I don't recall seeing a "Quiet time " posted on the ship .

As someone who has had to talk to school personnel about what is bullying in elementary schools, I am amazed that anyone would equate any request (whether or not it's on the polite side or not) with the act of bullying.

And whether or not, it's a woman or a man who finally got fed up at being disturbed, I think if you discover you are bothering someone at 3am, a "sorry" and then a retreat into your cabin, or better yet (if you want to continue your powpow), a trek to a ship's lounge, is in order.

Mike Tyson caused a lot of folks to drop on the canvas. I don't think they made that choice.
