Default Update live from the Century

Sailaway from Vancouver was under SUNNY SKYs!!!!

Even the crew was surprised!

For those who were following it, I secretly upgraded my wife (and myself) to s Sky Suite and was going to surprise her when we checked in... but sadly as we got ready to line up to check in a lady asked to see our expreess check in and saw it said suite class and started yelling all over the place to see if a more senior person could tell her what line we should goto.

Oh well, it took a second or two and at first thought it was a freebie.... Joni is very happy.

Ship is in great shape and the food, service frankly everything has been perfect.

Weather is even okay. Saw sun today too.

That's it for now...

A Sixth -- I'm SOOO jealous! Aside from port days in Hawaii, our "pool days" were few and far between, last month. If you are in a Sky Suite, be sure to ask for cushions for your loungers. If you don't ask (and in some cases, insist), you won't get them. Looking forward to hearing more from the Century -- thanks for taking the time to post!

As my first time X cruising cousins are boarding the Century on June 17th and have a S! booked can you help me please with a couple of things to give them a heads up? What time did you arrive at Canada Place and how were the line ups at US customs? Was it after you cleared customs that they asked to see your Xpass? They are coming over from Victoria and just wanted to give them an idea what ferry to catch Thanks

That's how my Mom had found out we were in a Sky Suite too. She also had no clue that I had upgraded us.

I can help out with your questions as I just got off the ship on Sunday.

We arrived at the pier around 11:30am and security check and customs was a breeze. The easiest we've ever had sailing from Vancouver. Yes, after you go through customs there will be a lady directing you to the line according to what your express pass says.

Since they are coming from the Island, I'd definitely catch the 9am ferry. I think the 7am would be a little too early since they don't open the lines until about 11am.

Were you on deck to hear the RCMP pipe band? Apparently there are a lot of them on board and you got a special send off, fire boat and all. Lucky you. Hope the suite is awesome.

We were completely through CP in under 1/2 an hour. There was another ship being processed too (HA Maasdam? )

Yes, saw and heard the band plus there was a piper onboard.

They have been behaving themselves for the most part, but I have my ticket-book ready in case there are any Cruise Critic Violations made.

ISP was an interesting spot. Went whale watching on a private cat power boat, just the two of us with four Austrailians and our captain.

Whale city!

Fins to the right, fins to the left and many tail dives. One even dove under our boat.

Whale count... too numerous to count.

It was a bit rough overnight getting to the Hubbard glacier but I slept though it no problem

A bit of drizzle as we went right upto the glacier, the sights and sounds of the blue ice calving and crashing into the water. It was fantastic!

The captain spun the ship a couple of times using the thrusters and the view was one we'll never forget, the sun just obscured a bit by cloud to bring out the "blue" colour actually within the ice.

Bouncing a bit as we head to Juneau.

Later

Sounds great. I also had an unforgettable time on that cruise last August but the whales were a little more elusive (but we did catch sight of a few). The day at Hubbard Glacier was incredible. Hope you're enjoying the rest of the trip. Is Graham the onboard naturalist again? - I really enjoyed his informative talks.

I'm going to have to book a whale watching trip next time. Sounds like it was a fantastic excursion!! Glad to hear the glacier performed for you guys as well. The thunder as it cracks is incredible.

Enjoy your time in Juneau.

Question Century Main Dining Room

After you get back, any pix of the MDR, especially deck 6 tables by the railing would be appreciated. If you get a chance to pick up the MDR seating chart that would also be great. We're on a Century Hawaii cruise next Feb and trying to decide whether to stick with our "Traditional" dining assignment or switch to "Select". We'd like a table for 2 without having a bench on one side or being shoved right next to another table. Any info would be appreciated! Hope you continue to have a wonderful cruise!

You did remember to pack that spike strip, didn't you? Seriously -- if it happens again, just call Guest Services -- they are aware that this is an ongoing problem for the folks on Deck 12!
Your "high wind warning" reminded me of the weather we had for our midnight Kilauea sail-by. Folks on the upper decks nearly got blown away, trying to spot distant lava!
Thanks again for the "live" updates from Century -- hope you get to see some whales soon.
