Default Sea sickness

First cruiser (and a very nervous one!) Have been assured by lots of people that - "you will not even know you are on a boat", but then read on here someone looking for advice about travel sickness tablets???!!!

Is this something else I should be adding to my "worry list"?

Should I be buying some just in case - joining at Marmaris for a two week Agean cruise.

No need to worry at all. Just get yourself some Stugeron or Traveleze or similar just in case. The eastern med in summer is unlikely to have storms.

Hi dingadong

I wouldn't worry about it where you are going. I can't go on the ferry across the channel without feeling seasick so was very dubious about doing a cruise. That was back in 2003 and we have done one every year since!!!

The only time I have ever felt any movement is when we have travelled into the Atlantice where there is more of a swell, but as davecttr says Stugeron is good to have handy. It's what I have taken if necessary and it does work well, expecially if you take it before you feel sick, although where you are going I wouldn't have thought you will have any problems at all.

Janet.

Think you may be confusing Stugeron with Sturgeon....

There you go living proof that AI can be good for you!

The Mrs was ill in a force 8-9 sailing to Agadir, even the staff were going down .
She took one of Boots the chemist own brand Seasick pills and within the hour she was fine again.

I suffer terrible travel & motion sickness, can't do theme parks, buses, cars unless i'm driving, you name it. I was on a luxury catamaran a few years ago on a whale & dolphin spotting trip, cost a fortune & I spent the 4 hours being sick while Hubby & kids enjoyed champagne & all the lovely luxuries I was looking forward to. I didn't see a single whale or dolphin as I was too busy being ill They loved it though

I even have to take sickness pills before flying yet on our first cruise 4 years ago I wasn't ill at all I took boxes Boots own travel pills & Stugeron by the bucket load yet didn't need them on board at all. The Boots ones you don't need water if I remember correctly & they work pretty quickly. My Daughter (8) also suffers but didn't suffer either on the cruise. If the worse comes to the worse you can get a Dramamine shot off the on-board DR which is like a miracle so I've been told.

Don't worry you'll be absolutely fine

Enjoy

I now prefer Traveleeze because they are chewable tablets and according to the packet you can take them once you start feeling ill. It has also been reported that lots of people find that you don't feel as sleepy as with other types.

Don't know about the alchohol although it has never stopped me having a little drinky. Operating machinery may be a problem but as a poker hand does not count as machinery I dont care

Definitely be prepared for seasickness. You never know if you will need it or not, and it's always better to be prepared. Don't believe people who say "the Med is always calm in summer, or the Caribbean is calm". It is the ocean, it's unpredictable. No matter how big the ship, you will feel the movement if the sea is rough. I've been in the Caribbean when it was calm and smooth like glass, and I've been there when it was quite rough and even seasoned cruisers were saying how rough it was and were feeling ill. Our daughter did the Med last August. Six of the days it was great, one was so rough she and many others were extremely ill. So you never know! Be prepared for the worse.
There are many different opinons on seasickness prevention/treatments. Some are: Seabands ( bands worn on the wrist that put pressure on the acupuncture site for nausea). Ginger capsules. Medications like Bonine, or Dramamine or whatever is available in your home country. Read up on it and you will find lots of suggestions and tips.
I get motion sick fairly easily. I used the Seabands on the last cruise and they worked for me. I take the Bonine with me and use it if needed- this last cruise I didn't need it, but I had it just in case.
If you prepare and plan ahead you increase your chances of a having a great cruise. Enjoy it!

Boot's own seasick tablets are supposed to be the best because you can take them as soon as you start to feel sick rather than 2 hours beforehand as with other brands.
We're just back from 2 weeks on the Dream & the sea was a little choppy the first week & my friend was swallowing Sturgeon tablets like smarties- totally zonked out for the first 2 days. She was grand the second week as the sea was calmer, but she still had to take 1 a day. So if you are easily prone to travel sickess then be prepared to have to medicate. The ships reception sells Sturgeon tablets 8 for £2.00.
