Liberty Western Picture Memories

I have decided to write this review a bit differently from my previous ones here on CC. I will list my favorites and just share some picture memories, as well as pictures of the ship. Hope this is helpful to anyone planning a cruise on Liberty!

To start off, here is Liberty docked in Cozumel:

Here is a list of my favorites, in no particular order of interest:

Loved the entertainment provided by Karl with a 'K' (CD) and Christian (Assistant Cruise director). Don't miss the morning show and Christian's impression of Mr. Bean. I was laughing so much! Here they are with the Marshmallows and "Chubby Bunny" competition...



The Blue Iguana is my new favorite spot for breakfast. The Huevos Rancheros is excellent! I had it just as is, but you can have eggs on top, cooked your way:



Diningroom entertainment is always fun!



We love playing mini-golf while in port, since the ship is so quiet.

I always saw the "cooking demonstration" advertised in the FunTimes, but I never attended before. Well, I will never miss it again. It is in the Steakhouse and is a demonstration of how they cook the specialty food. We got to taste samples of everything demonstrated. It was simply delicious! I never knew why people complained about the food on the cruise ships, but if this is what they are used to, I guess I can see their point. I still have an 'easy-to-please' palate, but could definitely tell this food is a cut above!

Christian shared his outstanding wit during the cooking demonstration, once again! There is never a dull moment when you run into Christian or Karl... Here is the staff of Diamonds Steakhouse:



Another favorite was on the first night after dinner. We attended the game show. The hostess, Debs is absolutely hilarious and born to do this! It was an unforgettable evening. I do not have any pics, but don't miss if Debs is the hostess! She can give those stand up comedians a run for their money.

On the second sea day, we attended the towel folding demonstration. We got to fold a couple of towel animals and then enjoyed one of the highlights of the week: The Towel Animal Theater. It was fun entertainment in the nice air conditioning, while our fellow passengers were up on the Lido stressing over chair hogs. I rather enjoyed our scene downstairs

The kids get to sit on the stage & at one point they blow hundreds of bubbles over them. They had a blast. (So did I)...

Another highlight of this cruise, but somewhat unique to our experience, was the electric storm we saw out at sea on our last night. I know it is probably overkill with the pictures, but I had a hard time picking just a few favorites!

At first, it was just a beautiful sunset in the making:



Then we started seeing lightning in the clouds:







After a while we were graced with lightning bolts reaching the ocean!

Another 'not to miss' event was on the final evening of the cruise, before dinner. Karl and Christian answered questions about ship life, etc. It was very interesting and here is some of what we learned:

The ship leaves someone behind about once a month. In fact, it happened on our cruise, but in Miami already. The person was denied boarding. We had to leave late, because they had to locate their luggage, which had already been checked and placed on the ship. We left about 5:30 p.m. We almost left two ladies behind in Roatan. The excursions page noted that we were leaving at 6 p.m. However, the FunTimes indicated that we would sail at 4 p.m. They ran in their bikinis from the beach, then strolled through the shop and onto the ship. NOTE: Always check FunTimes and Listen to announcements to hear the updated boarding time.

Ships are measured in size by tonnage. I used to look at the bow size and length, but apparently I was not being scientific. I can see that now, but I am blonde, after all.

The staff eats rice a lot - they do not get to eat our delicious meals. The chefs who cook for the staff members try to cater to the cultures, but it is clearly not as glamorous to work on a ship as we all imagine at some point or another... I guess I will keep my day job

Cruise directors now go to a college/training for 3 months before they can apply to be CD or assistant.

I can't remember more now, but will share as it comes to me.

Your pictures of the storm are stunning. Can't wait for more. I'm looking forward to doing the Western run on the Liberty next year.

I like that you can view the menu ahead of time to determine lunch and dinner choices. This is a tip for newcomers to the cruising industry Outside the MDR (main dining room), you can view the menu for lunch (sea days only) and for dinner. The TV on Liberty had the menus listed too, but they had two days backwards on our cruise, as well as the week before. So, your best bet is to look at the actual menu in front of the MDR. Here it is outside the Silver Olympian:

We were in the Silver dining room for dinner. Our waiter and assistant were two of the best we have ever had. Nahor and Catherine always had our son's chocolate milk ready and made our post dinner cappuccino to perfection. Encore to Nahor and Catherine!

Cozumel, June 4th

This was a very unique cruise for us. We only saw one other ship in port during the entire cruise, and that was in Grand Cayman. So, we had Cozumel, Belize, and Roatan all to ourselves.

Time to cook lunch... Wish I had a Diamonds Steakhouse chef around, but I will have to pause here. Will be back later today with ship pictures. I know there are many great, professional looking pictures of Liberty on CC, but if you are like me, you can never have too many!
