To all you experienced cruisers. What are the differences in service and perks between these two areas. I realize they have different admission qualifications, but do not know their respective services. Can you help me understand these differences? I also do not know if they vary by ship classes. Thanks again.
In general there are no real differences, unless you are talking about The Oasis or Allure. Some Lounges are better than others, as some have windows and others do not. That does vary ship class by ship class, and subject to those that have had a revite.

The only other point that may or may not be relevant is that the CL now admits children during the evening cocktail hour, while (as of now at least) the DL does not permit underage guests during the evening cocktail hour.

I keep reading that on CC but our Freedom cruise in April had children in the Diamond Lounge. It was no big deal as they were well behaved except for the one little girl who did not use tongs to pick up some food but then I saw her grandfather do the same thing
I thought only the CL has mixed drinks, plus beer & wine, and the DL only had beer and wine and mix drinks at a discount. We never go to the DL, but that was what we've been told from others.

You are referring to a Diamond Event rather than a Diamond Lounge, where a ship has a DL it is all drinks as in the CL

A ship with no Diamond Lounge will have a diamond EVENT. That us where the limited beverages are served. True diamond lounges will have the same beverages in the Concierge lounges.

There is a real mixed info about this situation. Clearly in Adam Goldsteins blog September 2011 it states that the children are permitted to the CL, but NOT the DL. However as the two Concierges work from the same rule book, some of them are not aware of the differences. On a recent cruise I asked the concierge and was told that children are allowed, but when I showed him AGs blog, he was confused by what he should do.
In my view the DL should be for adults. the kids have their area and we should be allowed to have ours.

Oasis and Allure and all Freedom Class have a dedicated Diamond Lounge where you get the same amenities that you do in the Concierge Lounge. Currently, Radiance, Rhapsody, Grandeur and Mariner have had dedicated DL's put in place during their enhancement program.
As ships go in for their enhancements, a Dedicated Diamond Lounge is being added. In the meantime, a Diamond Event is held where you get complimentary champagne, wine and soft drinks with all other drinks available at 25% off their regular price. For D/D+/PC Members there is also a special Diamond breakfast held each morning in the MDR on those ships without a dedicated Diamond Lounge.

OK, so we turn Diamond this fall, and next year will be in a Suite, so we could go to either. It will be on the Mariner which I understand now has an actual Diamond Lounge. So there is really no difference as to which lounge I went to?

I understand why Adam says kids can use CL. If they are booked into a suite with parents then they should have access; however, it is my understanding that if a family member is a Diamond or Diamond+, other family members get same privlidge; is this correct?

Nope, there should be no real difference. Try them both and stick with the one you like best. It's great that there are 2 lounges now, because I'm hoping that means at least one coffee machine will be functional at all times.

Yes, a family member will have the same status as the highest level family member as long as they live at the same address.
What if a child is a Diamond by having the necessary number of cruises? Should they have access to the DL?

Yes, anyone with Diamond status has access to the DL. However Adam's blog indicates that they wanted to restrict access to those of legal drinking age (even if the underage guest had legitimate Diamond status) during the evening cocktail hours. Whether this is actually enforced on board seems to be in question, according to some posts in this thread.
Something I'm not sure of - and know someone will be able to help. I know that Diamond Plus and Pinnacle can go to either the Diamond Lounge or the Concierge Lounge and that suite guests can use the Concierge Lounge, but can suite guests also use the Diamond Lounge if they wish.

For me its a non-issue since I will not be bringing my children in there. It also wouldn't bother me if they didn't enforce the policy. I don't mind having children around. I'm just wondering why there is a different policy for the DL.

Only if the suite guests are also Diamond Members.

Only if they are a D/D+/PC Member. If they are, their SeaPass will be programmed to open both doors.
