Default Cococay cabanette

RCI is listing under their excursions a cabanette rental for $50.00. It offers space for two, and the cost is for the cabanette total, not per person. Has anyone else done this? They supply 2 lounge chairs, a liter of water, towels, and an upgraded lunch buffet.

We did this when the program was new and the cabanette was only $30. however we would do it again.it is a great spot, quieter than the rest of the beach. The upgraded buffet was nice, cooked to order shrimp & steak. The cabanette is really just a big blue clamshell but nice for shade. It is a very short walk to the beach entry as they face a rocky area of the island, but for us this was no big deal. I believe it also included the beach mats.

On my upcoming cruise we will be stopping at Cococay, and have many questions :
  1. I read somewhere that there are these "cabanets" which are for 2 people (rather than the big family cabanas for $150). But on the Celebrity website I only see the large Cabanas available for pre-booking. Does Celebrity offer these smaller cabanas?
  2. Once you get to the island, how hard is it to get a lounges in the shade (i.e. do they get filled up quickly)?
  3. Once you get off the ship and get onto the beach, can you go back to the ship for lunch and come back to the beach afterwards?
  4. The lunch that is served on the island... that is plated, right? There is no buffet style lunch on the island?
  5. How far from the shore is the sunken ship and plain? I am an OK swimmer, but I will be snorkelling by myself so I do not want to swim out too far. And should I bring my water shoes and/or flippers?

You can move your loungers anywhere you want...and there are plenty of trees for shade.
Yes...you may come and go as much as you like.
The lunch is a buffet BBQ thing....ribs, hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, all manner of salads, sides, fruit, etc....
Can't help with the snorkeling thing....I HATE snorkeling!!!

This ship is out there, however a couple of things to remember. You are required to wear a snorkel vest if you don't have one they can be rented for $6 for the day. There are lifeguards surrounding the swimming/snorkeling area, and if you don't have one they will make you go get one. I would suggest flippers for sure. I've never had a problem that needed water shoes, but others will tell you that you need them.
