Smile Tacky Gift Ideas--Help Please!

I'm helping a friend come up with ideas for a Tacky Gift Exchange Party. He wants to get something obnoxious. Thank you for your help.

Do you have a Spencer's Gifts store near you? They have all kinds of novelty items, such as fake poop or vomit, bugs in plastic ice cubes, and the infamous "Whoopee Cushion". If there's not a Spencer's in your area, check your Yelllow pages for a novelty store nearby. There's bound to be something that will fill the bill.

Your friend needs to think of a better theme party.

Tacky -- most people will buy something for about a $1 and then just pitch whatever they get as soon as possible.

Your friend sounds "tacky" to me -- sorry -- I hope I am not offending either your friend or you.

I don't know, sounds kind of fun to me. I guess some of us just never grow up.

They have some hideously tacky Christmas ties at the Dollar Tree stores.

We have a tradition in our family, it started with a tacky tie and has now blossomed to a tacky scarf as well. This is how it works. Each year, said tie (for men) and scarf (for women) are "gifted" to a new person to be the "Guardian of the Tie" or "Guardian of the Scarf" each year. It is a 1 year bestowment, and must be gifted to another family member the following year. On the inside cover of the box, each "giver" must write the special reason they chose the new recipient for the special job of "guardian" of the tie/scarf before bestowing it. It is always a surprise of who will be the new guardian. The new guardian must wear tie/scarf and read all the previous comments and the year/guardians name on Christmas Eve, with all the family gathered around the Tree. They are usually silly monologues and outragous reasons why the guardian was chosen. But, as each year passes, the inside of the box has filled with cherished memories of each previous guardian. Our family has been doing this for at least 20 years. Our beloved Aunt started this family tradition all those years ago, and unfortunately, we had to bestow last Christmas tie/scarf for the first time without her. I'm sure every person in the room felt her there in spirit though, just because of our silly, tacky, family tradition.

My thanks to those of you who shared useful ideas! They sound fun. I love the "Guardian of the Tie or Scarf"! THANK YOU and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

No Krazy Kruizers, my friend is not tacky at all so you shouldn't assume he is. This is his first time at an office party and he was trying to get some good ideas. They do this gift exchange for fun and then donate the money they would have spent on a "real" gift to a local charity. FYI--When you call someone tacky, it does offend--whether you meant to or not.
Merry Christmas to you too.

I agree with you, I thought Krazy Kruizers was quite rude to say this and it was totally uncalled for. Hope that doesn't offend them, it's not meant to...........

Friends of mine had a holiday gathering this past weekend, where everyone wore their "tackiest". The invitation requests you don your best Christmas Kitch. You can imagine the howls of laughter as each guest arrives, and the fun of capturing a tacky group photo...

Hope my friend Joyce doesn't mind me borrowing her photos, as I am not in these pictures. But you might want to incorporate a dress code to your party. Bring along that holiday fruit cake as well

...Oh, and my apologies to anyone who actually dons this apparel (someone buys those silly sweaters in the stores )

I like fruitcake!!

Mind you it has to have marzipan and Royal icing too though, can't beat a real Christmas cake.

Some of the gifts at the party I went to last year were the Flatulence Deodorizer Pads, and the dog poop calendar - YUK! It was a White Elephant Party, and had anything from those two items, to a bottle of tequila! So - I always take a good gift, hoping to get a good gift...doesn't always work -

The best I have ever seen is a box of candy. When you open it up, all of them have a bite taken out of them! They had managed to re-shrink wrap them and all. Quite ingenious, I think!
