Anyone just back from Vision of the seas?

... about 30 days ago. The Vision is an older and smaller ship and is great condition for her age (and you better beleive that she has a fan club!).

This was our first trip on the Vision, we have cruised many times on other RCL ships but liked the Vision's ports as she can get into places that the larger ships cannot.

When you look at her on the website you notice that she is small and that there are no specialty dining options. Being small does not bother us at all (in fact it has its advantages) however we too were concerned about the dining situation. We booked my time dining at 5:30 each evening. We normally eat in specialty dining sites at least half the time on a cruise (on the Alure and Oasis we never did get to eat in the main dining room).

Got to share with you the food on the Vision was the BEST main dining room food we have EVER had on an RCL ship. I was particuarly fond of the cold soup entree offered each night (they were great).

The bars and nightlife are just fine. Loved the Champange Bar (Virginia is great) and the Viking Crown lounge goes late into the night / morning with dancing and a theme of music each night (Jamie is the model of a RCL bartender).

The theatre is comfortable and we saw some nice productions there (I am normally not a fan of the shows but the wife enjoys, so I go). The Ricky Nelson tribute surprised me (I now see why it is the number one rated act on the RCL line).

The Casino is small and was not lucky for me but no fault of the staff. We did while away some enjoyable hours there. The bartender there knows how to make a strong drink.

Your fellow passengers tend to be more "seasoned cruisers" and turn in a bit eairler than some of the "less seasoned cruisers" you may be used to. We actually enjoyed having a smaller crowd late at night in the Viking Crown lounge.

Each ship is a bit deifferent in the way in reacts to waves and generally speaking the smaller the ship the more you will feel the movement (we do not get seasick and actually enjoy the motion) so if the waves get bigger than 7-9' you will feel it.

We had a female Captain (a very nice lady) and a very talkative cruise director (announcements ran over 5 minutes every time... we would all just start laughing when the cruise director came on).

A great cruise for us (2 adults)... I suspect that depending on your parties passenger mix that the tweens may get a bit bored with this ship (depending on ports).

Sorry so long but wanted to help with your fears (we had a few ourselves) :)

We've just returned from the January 14 11-night cruise. The crew was amazing, the ship is clean and the food was great. We had a wonderful itinerary and even the weather cooperated. Boarding was a breeze and we experienced the easiest disembarkation ever. Not much to complain about..aside from having to leave! Did you have any specific concerns?

Darkwolfe, it would be great if you were to post how your cruise went. Could you also let me know if you see anyone taking soda onboard? A lot of people say they have taken it onboard but no one from Vision of the Seas. My wife and I leave in a month and it would be comforting to know for sure. My wife has to have caffeine free and they don't serve it onboard. I truly wish you and yours a wonderful cruise.

Thank you everyone.

I shall endeavor to be observant enough to see if anyone brings any soda aboard. :) Though to be fair, we'll board as early as they'll let us so I may or may not see many folks in the terminal before we go up the gangway.

Hi,

since you are planning to be there very early .... perhaps this pointer will help a little.

We were there (at pier / terminal 4) very early as well and there were hundreds of people either leaving the terminal or just standing in front of it waithing for something or somebody ........ do not stand in front of the terminal with rest of the people that just finished their cruise.

After you drop of your luggage with the porter / longshoreman go to the side of the building ...... there is another entrance there that will open as soon as they are ready to process you.

The people that are early will start forming a line there. There are few benches to sit but not many. There might be a person by the door from the port security that you can ask some questions if you have any.

Once they open the door they will process you very quickly and they might ask you to sit in chairs provided untill the ship is ready to accept the new passengers / guests.

Enjoy the cruise ....... you as well as the OP will have fun .

there are no chairs , just some benches on the side of the building ..... if one was not in the early line on the side of the building ..... one will never know the line even existed.

There is a lot of chairs inside the terminal and yes it was very well organized.
