I've had 2 midship cove balconies twice (Room 2330) and never had any issues whatsoever. When it comes to the Dream class it's cove balcony or no cruise at all - LOVE the cove!! Also, the casino is located on the 5th floor so that's one less place you'd have to worry about noise from

This is all great input, folks! Thanks so much! Starting to get the idea that the location from bow to stern is more important to noise issues than what is above (with the exception of the galley). But since I haven't seen a deck plan where the galley location is identified, how do you find that out?

And with one poster saying when you look up all you can see are lifeboats, is it possible to even see the stars at night from a cove balcony?

Please keep the comments coming. Learning something new from each of them and sure that others will too.

We were amazed at the slamming doors as well, seemed to go on and on at times. We did feel like we had noise from below, but not above. We do sleep with a sound machine, which drowns out a lot of noise, but did hear grinding sounds throughout the night...but we would do it again. We loved the privacy, folks in room next to us smoked, which we respect their right to do, and it did not seem as bad as other balconies we have been on.

We had a cove balcony on the Dream and the Breeze. We had room 2326 on both ships. We liked that location because it was close to the mid elevators, which took us straight up to Camp Carnival, MDR, Casino and the Marketplace on the Lido deck.

We didn't remember hearing any noise on the Dream but this time I did notice some. Nothing major but depending on what time we were in the room, we could here them moving chairs around in the MDR, one night we heard them singing one of the songs during late seating. And on rough water nights I could here the life boats swinging or banging. No one else in my family could hear them though. LOL

It's so minor and it would not stop us from booking the Cove balcony in that location again.

If you were to look straight up, no, you can't see stars. But if you look out and up you could still see the sky and stars or moon. It's not the same as being on the upper decks course.

We had 2325 on the breeze and really only heard two noises all week. We heard a rumbling noise most nights which I guess was from waves crashing against the ship. It was quite loud. Kept me awake so much the first night I got up to call guest services because it sounded like something being dragged around above us lol.
Second one was the constant slamming of balcony doors from both of our neighbors. Of course this will happen on any deck. Most people just seem to lack common sense or don't care they are disturbing others by this. I could feel our cabin shake every time they went in or out. :sly:

The other sound was not the waves hitting the bow of the ship, but the sound of the displaced water landing back into the ocean after hitting the bow. It was a sound we could listen to all week. ...We thought the location and the cove balcony were perfect!
Right now we're booked in 2411 and 2409 on the Breeze and are thinking swtiching to 2281 and 2283...I was concerned that the people walking past to go to the elevators might be noisy with the latter, but the ones we have booked now are under the galley. Not sure if I should switch or not

Looking directly up, of course you'll see the life boats, that's where they are That's part of the beauty of feeling private. Also, no direct sun. Those coves are the best invention. You can look out and see the stars, but I don't book a balcony just to see them, I can do that at home. I was not under the gally, so I only know what I read. I would rather do an OV than book an upper level balcony unless there was some kind of a roof over it.

We were in 2264 on the Breeze and it was fantastic !! No noise issues and great views ... if you are on FB then go to a group called Carnival Cruisers...Past, Present, Future and there are lots of us that have posted Cove pictures :-) and also a group called Galveston Carnival Cruisers ... on both of those groups there are pics of the cove balconies :-)

LOVE the cove balconies but I would never book another one under the galley. The noise would start around 11:30 pm and continue all night!

We were on the Carnival Magic 3/2013 in cove cabin 2381 and our children were across the hall in an interior cabin. The cabins turned out to be under the galley and the noise was terrible all night long. It sounded like they were bowling or or dropping free weights in a gym. I notified guest services and they sent down the head of hotel services and they verified the noise the first 2 nights and tried to remedy the issues in the galley but were unable to. Since no other cabins were available the gave us all a 25% discount on our entire cruise and 15% future cruise credit. We are going to try a cove again 10/2014 but made sure it not under the galley this time

2248 on the Dream was great. We had waves the entire trip and heard the slapping of waves at the bow, but no real noise.
The only weird thing about that particular cabin is the emergency exit from deck 4 that went through our balcony. It did not look like it was ever used, but to look up and see "EMERGENCY EXIT" painted on a metal door at the top of a metal ladder welded to the hull was a bit odd.

We loved that room and only had balcony neighbors on one side. The other side was ocean view.

We were in 2298 on the Dream had no problem with noise from above. Did hear the stablizer of ship all the time very annoying. Everytime it would adjust you would hear it.

We had 2276 on the Magic and loved it. It is one of the few that has a break in the lifeboats above it and we could see the stars. We have it booked for a B2B in January.

Default No worries!

WE had a cove balcony on the magic with no worries. We were under the kitchen area and only one nite i heard a cart being rolled. It was so nice being close to the water and seeing the flying fish and dolphins. The balcony was so private and we never saw our neighbors. I would get another ..

Since the cove balcony does not have a clear railing, when you sit down can you look out and see the ocean or do you have to stand up to see the ocean?

I had cabin 2334 on the Breeze. Worst cabin for noise I've ever had! There was a loud metal-on-metal banging/grinding sound that I could never figure out where it was coming from. Plus, on the deckplan it shows a blank space next to the cabin. Turns out that blank space is actually a storage room for the luggage carts and the carts made noises as well.

I was with a group of people and there were 3 or 4 of us in cove balconies in different locations and I think the majority of us had noise problems.

I will not book a cove balcony again.

I hope it's the same on the Breeze, because we have 2276 booked for January

Nothing to think about. Just don't book a cabin below the galley

I just found my paper for Dream, we were in 2404, not under the galley, a few doors from an elevator and stairs up 1 flight to the DR
